Guest guest
My son is 2.5 years old and has hypotonia, dysarthia and apraxia. ALthough he has been in speech therapy since 18 mos, we just began seeing Debra Beckman in Orlando. In just 5 weeks with her he has made tremendous progress in sound production and muscle improvement (less drool) although he still has a very long way to go. Debra speicalizes in Oral Motor Therapy and also uses Prompt and the Kauffman method. One of her previous patients posted a you tube video that shows her progress in speech from the age of 6 years to currently as an adult. I found it inspiring and encouraging so I thought I would pass it on.
Guest guest
That was an inspiring video! My now 6yo has been going to Beckman and Associates for 3 1/2 years. He has not made as much progress but he can now move his tongue side to side whereas before he could not. We're still working on getting him to be able to lift his tongue up. I understand it depends on the severity of the child's disability as to how the oral-motor therapy progresses. > > My son is 2.5 years old and has hypotonia, dysarthia and apraxia.
