Potty training tips?

Hi, all -

My wife & I have been having an extremely difficult time potty-training

our 4-year old daughter who has global motor dyspraxia. There was a

period of time where she had an interest in trying but that has faded

over the past few months to the point where she dislikes sitting on the

toiler altogether. We've tried the reward system with M & Ms, created

fun sing-a-longs in the bathroom for her as she tries...we even put a

portable DVD-player in the bathroom and tried to encourage to her to

try to go while watching an episode of one of her favorite shows like

Dora or Wonder Pets (or Max & Ruby...which I find to be a very bizarre

show, but that's a post for another thread on another board).

Her neurological pediatrican is not surprised by this delay in potty

training, as this is a common practice amongst kids w/ dyspraxia & she

preaches patience, patience, patience. My wife and I are doing all we

can, but are admittedly becoming slightly discouraged by her total lack

of interest.

There is one ray of hope - our 14 month old daughter has conversely

developed a big interest in going to the potty and is getting to the

point where she will go herself at least once a day, usually just

before bathtime. As such, my 4-year old will at times seem a bit more

interested in trying, if only because of the innocent sibling rivalry

between the two.

Anyway, I was curious if anyone else in the group has gone through/is

going through a similar situation and whether any suggestions could be

offered.

Much obliged!
