Guest guest
May I ask why you are seeing a speech therapist only every two to three months? Has this speech therapist explained to you the techniques a speech therapist uses (for example, fading) so that you can correctly teac your child at home? Speechercise CD's are good for auditory learning of oral-motor movements, but the child must be able to listen and follow directions, Unfortunately, they do not have a Speechercise DVD. But ABILITATIONS does sell a similar item that " is " a DVD called " Oral Motor Movements DVD " ; it was on back order for 6 months, but finally became available again. I am not familiar with the type of sign you mentioned. Is it a native sign language and are you doing the gestures to match the words? In other words, is the sign, your voice, and the word all matching up at the same time? We received our son's diagnosis late as well and it was very frustrating. Very little is known about verbal apraxia in children and it is known by many different names. Scientists are working hard to discover more about this condition. One helpful piece of advice is to speak with everything you do. And another is to build on the skills that your child can do, whether they are language related or not. (This helps to strengthen the brain.) I am sure you will get some other good advice from the group as well. > > Hi Im new to the boards have struggled to find information on apraxia . > > My son is 4 next month and now has dignois of sever Apraxia i have struggled find anything in the uk all seem to be aimed at children with speech/sound where my son has none at all mostly just squeals and grunts .He also has global delay and is about 18 months -2 years behine also has hypertonia but they have ruled out ASD. > > We see speech therapist every 2-3 monhs and inbetween I work with him daily trying to get him to move his tounge around so far with no succes also do face massages and try get him to blow raspberries /bubbles and to pucker up for kiss instead looking like going to bite you# >He does sign using makton and can put 2 signs together so heads of lot of frustration now but worry so much how hes going to cope > > > But has anyone some more ideas what can do to help him as finding i feel very alone with it all > > Thank you >
