Guest guest
My son regularly gets this red ear thing ( 2-3 times a week). We have asked all of our doctors and never gotten an answer. We have noticed that it often coincides with especially unmanageable behavior. Do you know more about this? CC

Guest guest
We had this with kid #1 before she was dx celiac. I have been told allergy or mercury. > > > > > > >
Guest guest
CC We get FLAMING red ears with eating a food that Mark is intolerant to. His lower cheek also gets a bit 'rashy' as well. Mark also gets this after swimming in chlorine (another no, no for him). Just last night, I was trying to reintroduce eggs which is a 'problem' food to see if his tolerances had gotten better. It's good to challenge every once in a while. I was very careful about making sure that he only had the eggs. A little later.... took about an hour, there he was with scarlet ears and this time his lips too were quite colorful. Speech was not slurred but quite 'stiff'. When I commented on the eggs and how he still looked intolerant, Mark guiltily pulled out about a LARGE stash (about 7) halloween candy wrappers from his pockets and said.... " Well.... it might not be the eggs.... sorry mom! " Thanks kid.... you see, he reacts to high fructose corn syrup (which is in most candy and soft drinks) so he just 'blew' my control! Brat! Oh well, tomorrow is another day! (I thought I had gotten rid of all that candy! He must have another stash somewhere.....) To get rid of this..... I use two different remedies for 'clearing' the body of an allergen. The easiest and most convenient is to get some Tri Salts (sodium bicarbonates) and you mix about 1/2 a tsp with a glass of water and drink it down. This normalizes body ph and it helps the body clear foods. We did this and Mark's ears cleared right up.... within about 1/2 hour. The second thing that I find works (but not quite as well) is to take Epsom Salts baths. You can find Epsom Salts in any grocery store. Epsom salts are magnesium sulfate and the sulphate promotes the detoxification cycle in the body. The salts absorb right through the skin. Don't drink it though or you'll get diarrhea! Detecting your child's intolerances is tricky! I knew about the milk issues easily since these become obvious when you do an elimination diet of three weeks but the other stuff was tough. This was because they were items that were littered throughout our meals. We have intolerances to Milk, eggs, corn (including high fructose corn syrup) and soybean. We used to have gluten too but have overcome that one.... thank goodness! We also have issues with any type of 'chemical' that is added to processed food.... such as MSG or BHT. We have basicly stopped with the processed junk altogether..... except with a few 'infractions' here and there for special occasions (and when Mark cheats). We use dietary enzymes which really help with this. Out of sheer frustration in trying to detect all of Mark's food issues (and I knew they existed, those red ears tell their tale), I finally broke down this spring and found someone to do an Electro Dermal Screening on him This test comes under many names.... electro dermal screening, Biomeridian scan or Meridian Stress Assessment. I did it via an Environmental doctor in Utah. It was 'bang' on and after eliminating problem foods, Mark's condition is soooooo much better and his behaviour/speech/motor skills are very consistent. These tests are very sensitive and it's good to do an elimination with each of the foods that come up to 'ensure' that they are actually problem foods. Colleen also does this test with Charlie and has had the same good results as we have had with Mark. Undiagnosed food intolerances can really affect a child's abilities. Mark can show symptoms from really 'slurred' speech, severe brain fog and ADD behaviour, compromised motor skills, balance issues and fine motor issues.....basicly, he is affected globally. When you find the foods and eliminate them from the diet (which is not as hard as you may think... it is actually pretty easy once you get used to it), therapies work better, the child functions better and the entire household is happier. Now, it may not necessarily be food that your child is reacting to; it may be chemicals from a household cleaner, dust, mold, etc. But most of us who have actively pursued this course find that our neurologically affected children seem to have food intolerances. Once you remove exposure, the child's condition improves dramatically. Doris Rapp writes a book called, " Is This Your Child " that goes into the issue of food and chemical sensitivities and how they can affect children. You can read a little more by going to her website: http://www.drrapp.com/ But there are many, many other educators out there who speak very intelligently about the subject of allergies. One book that has really helped me 'understand' and to develop a plan is called Allergies: Disease in Disguise : How to Heal Your Allergic Condition Permanently and Naturally by Carolee Bateson-Koch which you can look at http://www.amazon.com/Allergies-Disguise-Condition-Permanently-Naturally/dp/1553\ 12040X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8 & s=books & qid=1227108734 & sr=1-1 This book has really been a blessing to our household and has given me a good 'plan' to work this issue for Mark. I came upon it quite by accident and it has served me well. It also confirmed everything that my various environmental doctors were telling me about Mark's condition. Now.... is this forever? I don't know. I hope not. We are actively working to heal Mark's immune system and his tummy so that his T-cells no longer react to different foods. We are currently using low dose antigens for dairy and for soybean..... trying to get his body to distinguish friend from foe but this is a long process and patience is needed. Now that we have removed all of the foods he is sensitive to, I can easily tell when he gets something 'bad' for his condition/function deteriorates rapidly and it is obvious. Before when he was 'living' this..... it was not obvious.... it was 'hidden'. Hopefully this gives you a hand in researching your child's issues. This problem is 'common' in our kids...... but with really good food investigation, it can be conquored and resolved for the child. I find that now our entire household eats a much healthier, cleaner diet. Take care, Janice Mother of Mark, 13 [sPAM]Re: [ ] red ear blood pressure? Guest guest
Phenols. My two boys ears get red when they eat foods high in phenols like grapes or apples. You can google phenols and find out what foods are high in them. I just give them an enzyme by Houston's called No Phenol and that helps.  Dana
Guest guest
We were asked by our homeopath if our son ever gets red ears or red cheeks (which he does sometimes) and he said that it indicated that the nervous system was upset. Guest guest
Don't know if this would apply in your son's case, but when our son was 4, we noticed that his ears would " flame up " from time to time. We found that he was having a reaction (within 5-10 minutes) of certain foods. In his case, it was milk and Red 40 food dye. We probably would have never put two and two together, but during that same time, he began having severe tics (and was incorrectly diagnosed with Tourette's). He also would literally start bouncing off the walls, and he's not a hyperactive kid normally. We removed him from milk and all red food dye for about a month. His red ears and ticking symptoms ceased immediately. He's on a 100% normal diet now, and has been for years. There is a very good book on food allergies called " Is This Your Child: Discovering and Treating Unrecognized Food Allergies " by Doris J. Rapp. In it, she talks about the symptom of red ears and shows pictures of children having that type of reaction.
Guest guest
I've gotten a random hot red ear my whole life. It doesn't happen that frequently and I never found any real correlation with what I did or ate except I had it happen more in winter and when it was cold or windy outside and then I went in. It wasn't just the cold though, and it didn't only happen in winter, just with more frequency. My mom thought it was because I was so fair skinned as a child. I have three kids. My oldest (non-apraxic) son gets this same weird one ear only red ear from time to time. My other two don't. My oldest is the fairest skinned (almost as fair as I was as a child) and has the biggest emotional range. He can go from upset to happy, to calm to excited and back in a matter of seconds! And his highs are higher and lows are lower than my other kids. Miche
Guest guest
My 5 yo ds has never eaten an apple or a grape (he drank apple juice and grape juice about a year ago however). He gets red ears when he is playing hard sometimes. I just thought it was a way for him to cool off his body! Guest guest
Always intolerance here, this can be a supplement or food. I always assumed food and spent ages eliminating until it became clear over time that some supplements are not tolerated and we get the red ears. Vicky HiMy son is 5 years old. He developed Autism exactly 2 years ago. In that time he's made huge progress with gluten/casein free diet and supplements. However in the last month or so his speech, emotional side and sleep has regressed again. He's crying lots for no apparent reason, screams and shouts random words that don't really make any sense and now he's gone from sleeping 10 hours straight through every night to waking several times. He's been treated for parasites and yeast and been seen by the doctor who can not find anything wrong with him. This is the thing I have noticed, when he's at his worse he has one red ear. Can anyone please tell me what this might be? Thank youHelen

Guest guest
I thought I had also read this could be caused by phenol intolerance, maybe try reducing high phenol foods and/or trying some digestive enzymes, I think there's one called No-Phenol?
