Guest guest
Liz how is your father? To answer your question in short no. What is hemotochrosis and did you spell it right because only 5 results came up for it on Google and none of which sound like anything we'd test our kids for. Does your child have hepatitis? " People with Hepatitis C often have a complication called hematochrosis. This is iron deposits in the liver tissue itself. This is a very dangerous condition and patients are often treated with phlebotomies (the removal of a portion of blood). Furthermore there is speculation that the virus uses iron in its life cycle. For these reasons iron should be avoided. If you suffer from this condition, I would also avoid cooking in iron pots as the iron is leached out into the food. Guest guest
, Did you mean hemochromatosis? an iron overload disorder. this is a genetic disorder that does not allow the iron to deplete itself from the liver and patients with this gene need to phlebotomize every month, depending on how high their iron levels are. Women who have menses need not phlebotomize since their body naturally depletes blood each month. My husband carries the gene but neither of his parents knows who passed it on to him. If not taken care of it can lead to psoriasis of the liver, diabetes and heart disease. He developed a pain in his stomach and went to a internal medicine specialist who then referred him to a hemotologist. The hemotologist told us the history behind this gene. Hemochromatosis is less common in African Americans, Asian Americans, Hispanics/Latinos, and American Indians. If the iron overload caused by hemochromatosis is diagnosed and treated before organ damage has occurred, a person can live a normal, healthy life. People who have joint disease, severe and continuing fatigue, heart disease, elevated liver enzymes, impotence, and diabetes should ask their doctor to test for the HH (hereditary hemochromatosis) because these conditions may result from hemochromatosis. Hematochrosis vs. hemochromotosis - wish the medical field would stop making medical conditions so closely related. It gets so confusing! all the best, Joanne
