Well in that light Kris, now that you bring it up... I want to just

Jersey this subject for a sec.

I have not been around much either in the past 2 weeks and I too

noticed that the group has gone in a different direction by a

handful. I have no problem with any of the posters and know they are

all people that love the children and are trying to help...but things

are just getting a bit carried away.

For example I noticed that a parent of a 2 year old posted that her

child was evaluated and found to be " a sweet child " and " not viewed

as autistic by any doctor " which sounds like it could be just about

any child with or without any condition at all (outside of

autistic). I may have skipped where she mentions specific issues in

the child or missed some first step advice as I was really busy and

haven't been around much these past 2 weeks - but she was adviced

that she needs to go the biomedicalnacdspecialdiet route. ? Why ?

Am I missing something? Do we even know if it's a simple delay in

speech or what yet?

I get it that some love the in some cases unknown and unproven

biomedicalnacdspecialdiets...but no mention of the zillions of proven

methods or types of schooling that we've shared and that have worked

over close to a decade here? This group is close to a decade old and

we have parents of children that are now pre teen, teenager and adult

age who have done well in school, are social, and blending as close

to " normal " as normal -and as far as I know it wasn't broken until we

tried to " fix " it which led to MRIs which I'd rather not bring up

again. Lots of the parents who have children doing well find it hard

to read the group now as they don't relate to the handful that post

over and over...and now I'm seeing newer parents complaining about

the same thing. How do I put this... This isn't a blog.

And back to you Tara.

Living in Florida I can tell you that the professionals here mean

well but I have found quite a few don't know about apraxia because

around where I live there just are not that many -outside of those of

us that moved here... For example my son Tanner was diagnosed by

various MDs and SLPs and OTs up in NJ and NY and all agreed on the

diagnosis of apraxia. Here in Florida, Tanner, who has the

concentration of a pit-bull and tends to be more lethargic unless he

pushes himself was " diagnosed " as ADHD and the doctor said " I've

never seen a child quite like this before. He is unique. " Being I

have an ADHD son and knowing how many other children were just like

Tanner (apraxic with sensory issues and low tone) I knew to just

laugh at that and say " you need to take a sabbatical for a month in

Jersey! "

Tara you really should take your not yet 3 year old child to Dr.

Renai Jonas who works for early intervention in Palm Beach, is a

consultant to the Palm Beach County School system and an adjunct

professor at FAU to help secure appropriate diagnosis and appropriate

Early Intervention now and then 3 and up with the school preschool

program. 561 670 4562

As far as a starting point... The Late Talker book.... That's what

we wrote the book for. First steps of what to do -what's the

difference between various neuromedical doctors etc.

We are all aware that there's a handful of people that have to

explore other ways to help their child as they may have communication

impaired children that fall outside the norm. Of course whatever

works...but again please people let's stick with the basics for new

parents and let's not assume every single child that's a late talker

needs to go to the fringe ever no less to start. And to make it

clear -to me the fish oils and other alternative therapies like

hippotherapy are part of the basics...but so is traditional speech

and occupational therapy.

Speaking of which K sent me an awesome article that was written

about her by a Jewish magazine that I have to figure out how to post

here or put up in the files.
