Guest guest
My 28 month old son is currently receiving speech therapy 2x a week and 1x a week of IT. He was recently diagnosed by the neuro with apraxia and PDD. The neuro recommended speech 3-5x per week, OT 2x per week, and ABA treatment 20hrs. per week. I spoke to the current SLP regarding add'l hours and she told me that EI's model in NJ is to teach parents the skills to help their children on their own through practice. She also said that it is uncommon that speech is offered 3x per week in NJ. Does anyone have any thoughts on this matter? We're having a meeting with EI and the SLP on Monday morning. I'm trying to get as much help for my son as possible. With regards to OT, we were approved for 1x a week but did not receive it because the service coordinator at EI did not put the approval through (she's an idiot). Now my son needs to be reevaluated by an OT and hopefully since he now has a diagnsis, we can get 2x per week. With regards to ABA, I'm advised that my son will receive a behavorial assessment as well. I would love any advice that I can get. Anything I should provide or tell them for Monday's meeting? It been a very long struggle for my son to get services. It seems like EI's job is to provide the least amount of support as possible.
