Guest guest
hi, I have a 4.5 year old son in NJ who is in the preschool disabled class. He has Apraxia, Hypotonia, SID, expressive and pragmatic language disorder. He is showing great improvement in Speech and his sensory issues. Of course he goes to 2 sessions of speech and 1 Ot sensory gym session outside of school, that give me the best backup. I am concerned about next year. I have in my a typical preschool 3 X a week and special ed each afternoon. He is doing wonderful in the typical preschool with 20 children. The typical preschool teachers are extremely organized and structured, which works for my son. He knows what to expect even during play-time and is doing well socializing under structured play. Academically (non verbal) he is over a year ahead of himself. I wanted to hear from others about what the road ahead looks like: My son has issues getting his needs met verbally, he cannot always bring up the words he needs to say and he is also extremely well behaved and usually gets left behind because he is NOT the squeaky wheel in the class. If he looses the classification and only receives a 504 for speech and PT, I am afraid of him getting completely lost in the system and his needs will not be met. I would love to hear from others as to what their children did at this timeframe in their lives and if any of them do not have the classification and how it works for them etc. Also how the classification does work for them? Thanks so much, Alyssa F 4 1/2 year son If anyone would rather talk on the phone, please feel free to email directly.
