Guest guest
Hi, My name is Nelia and my 25 month old is . She has gross motor, fine motor, and speech delays. She gets PT 2x/wk, OT 2x/wk, and ST 1x/wk. She has been on the Nordic Naturals DHA, which is just the Omega 3s. I browsed this site and saw a lot about the Pro-Efa. I am wondering if I should be trying the Pro-Efa instead of the DHA. I am not sure if the DHA has helped with her sensory issues (which are constantly improving at least a little bit) but definitely hasn't helped her speech at all. I'm looking forward to this group and learning more about how I can help ! Nelia www.nunesfamilyclan.blogspot.com
Guest guest
Hi. Your life sounds pretty close to mine. 21 month old apraxia, possible low tone, sensory issues. We are doing OT, PT, and SPT each once a week. How did you determine the low tone? We are not sure. My daughter is intoeing. Seems to have weak muscles in her hips and legs, maybe feet. I don't know if everything is related or different issues to the speech. We are seeing a ped neurologist soon. We just got measured for orthodic Dafos today. How many words is your baby saying? My daughter said apple today! I was thrilled. I am happy the sounds are coming out right. Mine is saying about eight. She is so quiet though. Although some she says once and doesn't say often. Welcome. We are using Nordic Naturals DHA for kids also and a smoothie with flax seed daily. <ichele > > Hi, > > My name is Nelia and my 25 month old is . Guest guest
I am no expert but I would investigate what is going on biologically inside---fluid in the ears--which my daughters hearing test came back fine but later found out had fluid all along--daughter had yeast overgrowth also-------my two cents--God Bless or children From: nelianoonsi <nelia_nunes@...> Subject: [ ] I'm new here Date: Monday, November 10, 2008, 6:04 PM Hi, My name is Nelia and my 25 month old is . Guest guest
Hi Nelia, We had our 2 1/2 year-old son (moderate apraxia and mild PDD-NOS) on DHA for about 4 months and I can honestly say that I didn't see any improvement speech-wise from that. Then, after reading about the ProEFA (which is the same as Nordic Naturals Complete Omega 3,6,9) from other parents in the group, we started him on one capsule, and have recently increased it to two, and we're definitely seeing improvement with more sounds and more words. When we see a plateau, we'll be adding the one capsule of ProEPA. I think it'd definitely be worth it to try switching over to the ProEFA to see if your daughter responds. Good luck! B. Guest guest
The Pro EFA is not a children's product correct? We have been using the children's DHA soft gels. I will switch over when we finish the bottle. Could someone post a link to the exact product so I buy the right one? I know it is sold in different forms. Also the exact amount to give per day. My daughter is 21 months. Thanks. Guest guest
Thank you for your response. It was very obvious early on that my daughter had low tone. She started PT at 7 months because she was nowhere close to sitting up on her own. She was so floppy. She still has low tone but fortunately she has come such a long way, and is now walking. She compensates well and unless you are a PT or Dr you wouldn't know by looking at her that she has low tone anymore. My daughter has SureSteps which is a type of DAFO, I believe. She has said about 10 words.... hi, bye, mama, dada, yum, baby, and a few others. However, it's very inconsistent and they come and go... for example, she hasn't said baby in ages. :-( It sounds like your daughter is doing something similar? Congrats, " apple " is very exciting! Thanks for the welcome! Nelia > > > > Hi, > > > > My name is Nelia and my 25 month old is . She has gross motor, > > fine motor, and speech delays. She gets PT 2x/wk, OT 2x/wk, and ST > > 1x/wk. Guest guest
Hello, How did you discover that your daughter had fluid in her ears? Guest guest
Hi , Thank you for your feedback. How do you get your son to swallow the capsule? Right now we're giving my daughter liquid DHA in her juice or milk and that works out fine, but I can't see her swallowing a capsule. > > From: nelianoonsi <nelia_nunes@...> > Subject: [ ] I'm new here > > Date: Monday, November 10, 2008, 10:04 PM > > > > > > > Hi, > > My name is Nelia and my 25 month old is . Guest guest
We're definitely not anywhere near being able to swallow the capsules yet, either. What works for us (and what seems to work for some other parents that I've talked with) is just squeezing the capsules into a cup and then mixing the liquid from the capsules w/ juice (lemonade works very well to mix it with, too, since they're lemon-flavored!) :-) From: nelianoonsi <nelia_nunes@...> Subject: [ ] Re: I'm new here Date: Tuesday, November 11, 2008, 4:06 PM Hi , Thank you for your feedback. Guest guest
Welcome to our group, ! Anytime you want to chat, just email the group and people will email you back. RoxannaYou're UniqueJust like everyone else... ( ) I'm new here Hi! I'm new here. I have a granddaughter (hubby and I are raising her) recently officially diagnosed with Asperger's and also diagnosed with ADHD. She's currently taking Vyvanse for the ADHD. She is 8 years old and in grade 3--and a bright kid! I'd love to compare notes with someone with perhaps a girl about the same age--or would love any advice from anyone out there--I've been so focused on dealing with the ADHD for the last couple of years--now I don't know where to start with the Asperger's. Any help would be great--or just an online chat with another "mom" in the same situation!
