Guest guest
Hi everyone, I just wanted to say thank you for everyone's response to my " preschool placement rights? " post. Besides my husband, I didn't have much support trying to make it through the past few months with the transition process from EI 0-3 to school services. But, this group's encouragement and shared experiences has helped guide me through it. We decided to try and integrated preschool afternoon class which I was dead set against at first. Our son will get 2 pull out speech therapy 30 min sessions and one group in class per week. He's on OT consult to monitor his sensory needs. He turns 3 on 12/23, so he'll start after winter break in Jan. I am so glad the initial IEP process is over!! We ended up having to get our school board involved by writing a letter addressing our concerns after the MFE meeting. It made a significant difference having the Pupil Personnel director in our meeting. She set the tone of the meeting, addressing our concerns with the team. We couldn't believe the difference and were even surprised we were able to sign off on the IEP. So, we'll see. I am still a little nervous about my just turned 3 son in a class with primarily older preschoolers. But, my husband reminded me how he tends to follow the older ones (like his 4 yr old brother) and hopefully, he'll be exposed to more language modeling. I made sure I went in to the meeting with knowing what I knew I couldn't budge on (ST and OT) and what I needed to keep an open mind about. Thank you guys for your advice and personal experiences. This group has so much amazing knowledge and has really guided so many of our decisions this past year. Jodi
