Autism Service Dog Needed

We have a request from a family with autism for a service dog and I do not have

a lot of experience in this area.  We do not have a page about service dogs on

our site either, so we will make one from the responses to this email.

This family is looking for an autism service dog.

They are in Upstate New York but they are willing to travel.

The price they received so far is about $15,000 dollars with a very long lead

time.

They have looked at service dog centers in Connecticut and Oregon.

If you have some information on how to get a less expensive service dog quickly,

please let us know. Please reply to this email to amooney@...

Mooney, our assistant, and she will collect the answers for this family

and then post the information on the GR website.

Thank you so much.

service dogs <http://www.cci.org>

My sister told me about this place. They are based in California, its a

family friend that told her about them for my daughter. I don't think

we need something like that now- I hope this can help someone who does.

They have satellites all over the country- check under Regions on the

site. The Northeast satellite is on Long Island.

For children they call them Skilled Companions and children need to be

5yrs old.

Hope it helps. The application process says it can take a while and no

one is charged for a dog--you just have to qualify for one!! If the link

does not work- Google " Canine Companions " .
