Re: An amazing story about a lady with Down's Syndrome.

This might not be the best 'first post' to the list (I'm one of the 'old

guys' on the Our-Kids list, but new to ), but here goes...

Discovering, encouraging and supporting the work of a talented artist

(disability aside) is a noble undertaking. But I struggle with the question

of why this woman who is generating $150,000 a year in gross gallery sales

is limited to doing her art in a 120-space sheltered (albeit artsy)

workshop.

A group of friends in another city are collaborating with four artists.

They've connected them with a real-world artists' cooperative. The co-op

includes 28 painters, sculptors, potters who run a downtown studio/gallery.

Last month, Faye and I facilitated a PATH (a graphic planning session) for

that project. One of the artists - a man whose language was hard to

understand - indicated that he had something to say, so when his turn came

he picked up a set of markers and _drew_ his vision - an amazing, complex,

'on target' vision for the studio/gallery, including a picture of himself

surrounded by " regular ... people " .
