Guest guest
Hi, I'm a new member to the group and wanted to know if anyone knew if CR would help hypoglycemia (which I have). More specifically, would CR help the hormonal imbalances already present in my system. Also do those practicing CR who exercise do anything special as far as eating goes before they exercise. Exercise seems to help my carb metabolism but also makes my blood sugar unstable. Thanks in advance for the information.
Guest guest
Thorsten: This sounds like a dangerous diet (in fact sounds like Atkins to me). Low GI carbs (and high ones too) are the stuff that prevent things like cancer and keep things moving in your digestive tract. I beg to differ that humans don't need carbs. Walford talks about this kind of diet (ie Atkins) promoting weight loss but not being healthy. on 9/19/2002 7:00 AM, Thorsten Reinhardt at treinhardt@... wrote: > AFAIK humans don't need necessarily carbs in their diet. Guest guest
I like to keep sunflower seed kernels around for a handy, easy snack. They taste good; are an excellent source of vitamin E; last reasonably long without refrigeration; and I don't tend to overeat them. A handful will do to take the edge off. bugnewberry@... on 09/18/2002 04:31:02 PM Please respond to cc: (bcc: Loveland/south/llp) Subject: [ ] hypoglycemia I've been having bouts of hypoglycemia and it's really putting a " damper " on my CRONing. It often happens when I'm out shopping, etc. I'll get light-headed, shaky and VERY hungry. Of course at that point I'll eat just about anything. If available I'll try to grab something healthy, but usually I don't due to the urgency of the situation. Last time I checked candy bars were not part of the ON portion of CRON. Any suggestions as to the cause and what I can do about it??? What type of snack should I keep in my car/purse when these attacks come on? Does anyone else get this? My professor a few years back said b/c I was thin that my glycogen reserves are probably lacking making me more prone to low blood sugar?!? Any suggestions/help are greatly appreciated............... OK. I just wanted to say that it is _possible_ to live with very few carbs. I didn't want to give a recommendation what is the optimal amount of carbs. Of course their may be long-term negative side effects of very low carb / being often in ketosis. When I remember correctly, negative effects on bone health were discussed. But when it comes to CR, as I have understood, there is no consensus in the grazing vs. gorging matter. So it is not clear whether " gorging " (= one meal a day or one meal every other day) is better or worse than " grazing " (a lot of small meals). When CR is done in the " gorging " mode, and you have have frequent fasts of 20 hours or longer, don't you think that, in this mode, the ketosis metabolism mode is unavoidable?
