Guest guest
You can check out the Orton-Gillihan website which is a phonemically based program but also incorporates multi-sensory exercises to reinforce phonics skills. Another phonemically based program is The Reading System and you can check it out on the web site. is a cookie cutter of Orton Gillihan. However, it provides many materials to teach phonics to your child. I hope this provides a sense of hope with your son. ________________________________ From: tohope2day <hope-one@...> Sent: Sat, May 8, 2010 6:17:18 AM Subject: [ ] Re: Teaching phonics might start home schooling www.starfall. com is my favorite free site for teaching phonics. You can order materials from them, but everything you need is right there on the site. > > Hi, > > > > Anyone here home school? Or if you child attends school what reading program do they use? I am trying to figure out how to teach phonics to my son. His speech is not so bad. We are doing ABA and I'm not so happy with this approach. He is not happy lately. He has so much anxiety lately. Thinking about ending this ABA . > We are 2 weeks off of Depakote. We have a doctors office visit next Monday. I hope she has some wisdom on how to help us or get a second opinion about his brain spect scan. > Sorry I'm feeling in the dumps today. When my son is upset it just brings me down. I live in a state that mandates ABA for insurance to pay. We stayed in this state do to the waivers which are on a long long waiting list and the ABA. Now I am wanting to move . The only place I have family is St sburg ,Fl . > The schools here are terrible. Just again in our school district a teacher and aide bound a autistic child's hands and tied him to his chair with a belt and tilt the chair back. So out of fear I cannot have him go to school. I'm not sure if this happen to my child if he could tell me this happened to him. > Kathy >
Guest guest
I asked our psychiatrist why are there so many children on depakote that have apraxia. Her answer was interesting, " apraxia is neurologically based " ????? My daughter was found to be having pseudo seizures after taking depakote for 6 years. She is on Zoloft and weaning her off the depakote. it is taking her 3 months to get off the depakote as per her neurologist. We are assuming after the latest discovery of the abuse when she was in the orphange that she will no longer have issues with seizures or anxiety. Than when off the depakote I will feel better about introducing her to the nutriveda and taking her off the zoloft. I would think the ABA would only cause anxiety for your son. I have homeschooled for the past 5 years because of her speech issues and inability to tell me what happened at the school she went to for 6 dreadful weeks. We'll see.
