With stuff like that, I always go with caution and take my son in to be

checked, whether it be the pediatrician or the ER. Our kids have a high

tolerance for pain and cannot tell us what hurts, feels stiff or just isn't

right. Better safe than sorry. That is always my fear with the trampoline and

the power wheels. I hope your son is okay.

Did his pupils change, like one get larger/smaller while the other did not (not

due to change in light)? That's normally a tell-tail sign that something is

wrong after a head injury. Also, have you had him move his head up and down,

side-to-side? If so, has there been any pain or qunicing in his face? Also,

have you asked him to point to his boo-boo? My little guy had something similar

happen before he became more verbal, and these were all the items our doctor had

us check. HTH!

Sharon I don't want to frighten you but even if a child or even adult appears

fine after a head injury -it is something you always should take seriously and

have checked out at the hospital with testing. My son for example doesn't feel

pain like others so anytime he appeared to get hurt I took him to the emergency

room. Fortunately while the fish hook stuck in his leg was an obvious " OK we

need to get to the hospital! " and the one where blood was pouring down his face

after he ran into a door playing with his brother with his eyes closed because

he always used to close his eyes when he laughed...the time he broke his finger

the only way to know was the X Ray. He didn't cry- we 'think' he may be feeling

pain more now months after nutriiveda as I shared in the sore throat story (he

typically never complained of either sore throat or ear ache -the doctor would

tell us)

Did you go to the hospital yet? If not please go...now. stop reading and go

now.

i called the dr and they told me what to check and look for, but as usual they

said if he is acting fine (playing , eating normal) no falling or stumbling, no

discharge from eyes, ears, or nose. he is ok.

he fell from our bed several moths ago and we took him to the dr but they said

the same thing they said this time.

im i just paranoid or should i change dr?

I hate to say it, no bruising, swelling, not a mark. I wouldn't worry much.

With a big welt, bruising, YES!

Wanting to sleep after a head injury, YES! I hit my head on the corner of the

cabinet yesterday, IT HURT! Don't feel a thing today and no swelling.

Yes, paranoid, don't change doctors. Google if you need reassurance.

Make sure the pupils are not different sizes. That could mean he has a

concussion. Even if he does have a slight concussion, other than take it easy,

watch him while he is sleeping, I don't think there is anything alse to do.

Pupils not only have to be *equal*, but also *react to light*. You can test with

a penlight shone in each eye briefly; the pupil should get smaller.

You can also test grips for equality (have him squeeze two of your fingers on

each hand at the same time and test for equal strength) ---note: a child with

fine motor strength issues may not do well on this test.

You can also test reflexes yourself. (just below the knee, at the elbow, at the

ankle, etc...)

Teach him how to answer medical lingo in sign. For example, to begin with:

" Does it hurt? "

" Where does it hurt? "

" Are you ok? "

" Show me where it hurts. "

If you think your doctor shows no concern (like two of our previous doctors),

then change.

Look at the site of the injury and what does it look like. A head injury may

have a goose egg bleeding under the skin (bruise), or your child may be cranky

or irritable.

I know it is difficult to know what to do these days when, if something does go

wrong, DFCS jumps the gun.

Use your judgement as a parent because YOU know your child best.

Calling the doctor (and documenting the call time and date) is always good

because you made an effort to let the doctor know and the doctor gave no

inclination to come in.
