Well, sort of. Classes, yes. Dorms, yes. Cafeteria, yes. Beautiful, green campus, yes. Football weekends, toga parties, and other fantasies of recaptured youth, no. The IECA Summer Training Institute was held on the campus of Swarthmore College from August 5-9, 2009. (IECA is the Independent Educational Consultants Association.) Stimulating classes ran from Wednesday afternoon until Saturday evening and all sorts of useful networking occurred in the breaks and over meals. Aid, Swarthmore College Greg Potts, Director of Admissions, Philadelphia University Floyd, Director of Admission, Ursinus College Swarthmore College Information Session and Tour Friday, August 7, 2009: The College Essay Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn - Social Networking for Consultants Essentials of Financial Aid Saturday, August 8, 2009: Professionalism and Ethics Evaluating Colleges and Independent Schools College Advising for Students with Learning Differences While we don't usually get to live on campus, Holly and I do attend informative events of this sort to serve our College Admissions clients. We routinely go to conferences established by excellent sponsors, including NJACAC (New Jersey Association of College Admissions Counseling) and NACAC (National Association for College Admission Counseling). We also make numerous visits to college campuses and have frequent discussions with college officials. Please feel free to call or write if you think a further conversation is in order. Larry Deadlines Looming: Register by September 9th for the SAT and Subject Tests on October 10, 2009: http://www.collegeboard.com/student/testing/sat/reg.html Those seeking accommodations for the October 10, 2009, SAT must prepare and submit all documentation no later than August 21st. Accomodations for the November 7, 2009, SAT must be applied for by September 18th. http://professionals.collegeboard.com/testing/ssd/application/dates Register by August 12th for the ACT Test on September 13, 2009: https://www.actstudent.org/regist/dates.html Those seeking accommodations for the ACT must do so by the registration deadline - but it should be sooner! Waiting until the deadline can result in a denial. Most college supplements for the class entering in the fall of 2010 will be published by September 1, 2009. Learning Associates in the Community: Upcoming Events In cooperation with Velocity Sports Performance of Parsippany, we will be presenting a seminar aimed at high school student-athletes. With their help in enriching our seminar, it will be entitled " 3,000 Colleges, One Athlete at a Time " . Mark your calendar for Thursday, September 17, 2009, at 6:30 PM now. Invitations will be sent. Other fall seminars are being scheduled. If you know of a group that might be interested, please feel free to contact us. Recent Events Holly has completed teaching the Supervised Practicum and Seminar in Inclusive Early Childhood Education to graduate students at Montclair State University. " This was an opportunity to share my knowledge and experience with young teachers who are just starting out in the field, " she said. Larry attended the Annual Conference of NJACAC on May 11th and 12th, 2009, featuring two days of informative seminars and meetings. Learning Associates provided the program for the monthly meeting of ASPEN Northwest NJ at St. Clare's Hospital in Denville on May 27, 2009. We presented our seminar entitled " 3,000 Colleges, One Student at a Time " . There was a packed house in the Chapel at town Beard School for the Jersey United Soccer Club seminar on April 20th. Thanks to Jersey United for choosing us to present the program to their athletes. The 3rd Annual Admissions Symposium sponsored by NJACAC was held at Madison High School on April 16, 2009. Representatives of Colgate, Montclair, Moravian, Mt. Holyoke, the SUNY colleges, Rider, and & Wales were active participants. Learning Associates attended a high school symposium with presentations by admissions officers from Muhlenberg and son on March 31, 2009. Learning Associates provided a keynote address on the personal essay in college admissions at Temple Har Shalom, Warren, NJ, College Fair on March 22, 2009: " Get Personal, Shoot High, Get Noticed " . We provide full-service guidance, coaching solutions and consultative intervention for many educational difficulties. We are scheduling College Essay coaching during the late summer and fall.
