I think many of us here would tell you that our children had words and then lost

them. My daughter, now 4, had several words she could say and then it was gone.

There was no event that led to it not being in her vocabulary any more (i.e.

some parents say an illness, medication, vaccine etc), just that it happened.

From what I understand, this is a typical hallmark indicator of apraxia. I think

your DAN doctor doesn't really understand apraxia...many of our kids did have

some speech early on only to lose it. In addition, many of our kids with

apraxia also have some sensory issue as well as hypotonia. OThers here on the

group will share their experiences with you. You may wish to see a

developmental pediatrician or neurologist who is familiar with apraxia for

diagnostic testing.

seem to think apraxia. But the DAN doctor does not seem to think apraxia. Jack

had 5-7 words when he was 16 months old- mama dada, ballcow, elmo. Then he lost

them after hand foot mouth disease/anti biotics. He is not vaccinated- I did

get the flushot when 7 weeks pregnant and he got the hep b- but no other shots.

will talk in senstences but it will come out as " ga ga ga ga ga ga " . He used a

term that begins with an L but I forgot what he said.

replacing words with just a few consonants such as ga, ma, ba.

My son was diagnosed with developmental apraxia of speech and an autistic

spectrum disorder, sleep disorder and sensory. He did however have a few words

8 total (verbal and sign together made 8 words) before he lost them all.

However he did show CLASSIC signs of apraxia from the day he was born. He has

since been taken off of the spectrum with a few lingering symptoms that are

present. He has his own spontaneous thoughts and ideas that he does verbalize.

You can understand his speech even though you can tell his speech is not up with

the 5 year olds yet. He has been in speech since he was 2 years old. In my

experience with my son, he did have limited speech before the regression and was

diagnosed later with apraxia of speech.
