Guest guest
Hi everyone! Sorry I haven't been around much here but we are working on a few new things for Cherab Foundation I will be able to announce soon that are SUPER exciting!!! But I just needed to pop in to share about a new potential threat to our children that are verbally impaired...virtual therapy. Just when we thought the worst thing they could possibly do to children with severe impairments of speech was only offer group therapy -now they have a service offered to school districts to provide therapy via the internet. http://www.tinyeye.com/ I am just so disgusted that the only " testimony " they have is from the SLP who complains how her back was hurting her from her caseload at school prior and how wonderful (for her) it is that she can now work " from the comfort of her home " Oh so happy for you lady! All of you need to be aware of this new threat and only allow it if the service offered via the internet is appropriate. For example if your child requires any sort of touch cue therapy like PROMPT -how would they do that virtually? This service was developed due to the " lack of SLPs in the school " so it does appear they are offering it as a substitute for in person therapy. Here are some reasons for one on one therapy vs. group http://www.cherab.org/information/speechlanguage/therapyintensity.html Now we need to come up with a page for one on one therapy vs. virtual therapy!!! Would love to hear input from all of you on it -perhaps as a group we can write a public letter about this type of service and put it up on our new website which is still having info transferred over to it http://www.cherabfoundation.org And speaking of which -if there are any parent attorneys in the group who want to help with this let me know lisa@... =====
