Guest guest
My son was diagnosed w/Apraxia when he was just over 2. We soon realized that this diagnosis was given in order for him to receive therapy from EI. Other therapists have said he has a speech delay. He is responding very well to speech therapy 3x week. His sessions are all conducted on the floor. The therapist sits on the floor w/him and pulls out a toy....they play with this until he's ready for the next one. The only time they sit at the table is when they use Play Doh. At his age, I think this approach works best. He is seeing a private therapist as well who uses Kaufman cards, they incorporate it into his playing. All his therapists have said it's more important to have it be fun...they can accomplish much more this way. I'd avoid making each session a struggle, ask if the therapist can work w/him a little more flexibly. good luck!! mother to Teddy
Guest guest
- who did to got to to get a diagnosis for Teddy? What knid of doc- and was apraxia their specialty? Were you trying to get more speech from EI with this diagnosis? Wondering how I can get speech through EI 3x a week...we get 2 now. I was even thinking of cutting the sessions shorter to make a 3rd out of the 2 we have. Therapists don't want to drag themselves around for brief sessions..but I think it is a good idea...... -- Sent from my Palm phone wrote: Â My son was diagnosed w/Apraxia when he was just over 2. Guest guest
Hi , I too, would like to know who diagnosed your son w/ Apraxia. It feels as if we have been spinning wheels for the past year and a half and have nothing to show for it. I look forward to your answer. thx, ________________________________ From: <redsall@...>
