Hi Colleen!

I agree that it's great organizations and many doctors are appreciating

nutrients, including the essential nutrients like the essential fatty acids and

essential amino acids importance to help our bodies stay healthy and fight

various disease or conditions. There is more and more research going in this

direction so honestly how could anyone ignore that however?!

I never heard of either of the products you posted about so had to search for

them. To be honest the nutrivene out of the two seems to be so much better -but

it's just the curcumin right? Or am I mixing up products? The other- jury is

still out on that one and I explain why below. I still hands down if I were go

would just try nutriiveda. I was the first parent of an apraxic child to try

it. Alyssa may have been the first parent of a child that was scheduled to have

a portion of his brain removed to stop seizures to try it. So what even if no

other parent of a Down syndrome child has tried it -for sure parents of

dyspraxic children have :)

I just want to remind that nutriiveda is just whole food -that's it.

Each nutrient is 100 percent natural and 100 percent water soluble, tested free

of heavy metals, herbicides and pesticides and sodium, fat, gluten, casein,

caffeine free with no known side effects or drug interactions outside of the

natural detox stage we talk about here http://pursuitofresearch.org/science.html

The only ingredients in nutriiveda are:

Whey Protein Isolates, Rice Life powder(Brown Rice), Natural Cocoa Powder, Apple

Fiber, Organic Cane Sugar, Proprietary Ayurvedic Blend (Guggul, Amalaki, Green

Tea, Haritaki, Turmeric, Gymnerma, Cayenne Pepper), Xanthan Gum, Stevia,

L-Taurine, L-Theanine.

The whey isolate protein contains all the essential amino acids and more (Amino

Acids: Alanine, Arginine, Aspartic Acid, Cystin, Glutamic Acid, Glycine,

Histidine, Isoleucine, Leucine, Lysine, Methionine, Phenylalanine, Proline,

Serine, Thereonine, Trytophan, Tyrosine, Valine)

~~~~but back to the 2 you brought up:
The one page I found about nutrivene makes it seem like the only ingredient is
curcumin? Not sure if that is the case but no matter what please don't tell me
that nutrivene has to do with speak!!!
For reliv I searched for the ingredients mainly at drugs.com but also webmd for
the most part. The main issue I have with Reliv is in addition for me having to
search incredibly hard to find the ingredients is that the nutrients are added
-not from whole food, and there are artificial and synthetic ingredients -so not
happy with that. Then I did a search of what is added and there are a few
ingredients in question. I did not find much of anything even mentioning reliv
and down syndrome -pretty much this paragraph from this person was it when I put
reliv down syndrome into google
http://blogs.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view & friendId=83646862 & blogId\
=427044697.
Here are the ingredients Reliv INGREDIENTS: Soy Protein Isolate, Soy Flour,
Brewer's Yeast, Lecithin, Psyllium Fiber, Dicalcium Phosphate, Ascorbic Acid,
Methionine, Potassium Chloride, Magnesium Phosphate, Natural Flavor, Licorice
Root, Garlic, Rhubarb Root, Rose Hips, Cayenne, Kelp, OptiZinc® Brand of Zinc
Monomethionine, Ferrous Fumarate, Calcium Pantothenate, Niacinamide, Vitamin E
Acetate, Vitamin A Palmitate, Vitamin D3, Copper Gluconate, Papain, Bromelain,
Thiamin HCL, Riboflavin, Beta Carotene, Pyridoxine HCL, Biotin, Folic Acid,
Potassium Iodide, Vitamin B12, Sodium Selenite and ChromeMate® Brand of Niacin
Bound Chromium Polynicotinate.
And here are some of those in question:
Soy (first two ingredients) Tolerance to soy preparations in one study (N =
164) was reported to be good to excellent for most patients. However, both
toxicity and allergy have been reported. Also watch for low zinc, calcium,
magnesium, and iron levels if taking soy.
Brewer's yeast People who are susceptible to yeast infections or are allergic to
yeast should avoid brewer's yeast.
Lecithin Adverse effects usually are not associated with lecithin. However,
there have been reports of anorexia, nausea, increased salivation, other GI
effects, and hepatitis.
Dicalcium Phosphate /DCP In some instances, DCP can seriously effect the
absorption of other supplements. According to the June 1997 Journal of Clinical
Nutrition, the zinc absorption by people ages 59-86 was reduced by 50% when a
calcium-containing supplement was given with the meal. Phosphate's
non-absorbable character can also create problems. For instance, supplements
containing di-calcium phosphate may form a non-absorbable complex with
tetracycline. When you consider that tetracycline drugs are commonly used to
treat such conditions as bronchitis and certain types of pneumonia, this
propensity could create an inconvenient situation, to say the least. Causes
irritation to skin, eyes and respiratory tract. May be harmful if swallowed.
Potential Health Effects
Inhalation: Causes irritation to the respiratory tract. Symptoms may include
coughing, shortness of breath. Ingestion: Causes irritation to the
gastrointestinal tract. Symptoms may include nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. It
presents little toxicity unless large amount are ingested, in which case,
vomiting and diarrhea likely. Eye Contact: Causes irritation, redness and pain.
Skin Contact: Causes irritation to skin. Symptoms include redness, itching and
pain.
Potassium Chloride Serious side effects: confusion, anxiety, feeling like you
might pass out; uneven heartbeat; extreme thirst, increased urination; leg
discomfort; muscle weakness or limp feeling; numbness or tingly feeling in your
hands or feet, or around your mouth; severe stomach pain, ongoing diarrhea or
vomiting; black, bloody, or tarry stools; or coughing up blood or vomit that
looks like coffee grounds.
Less serious side effects may include: mild nausea or upset stomach; mild or
occasional diarrhea; slight tingling in your hands or feet
Ferrous Fumarate serious side effects bright red blood in your stools; or pain
in your chest or throat Less serious side effects may include: constipation,
diarrhea; nausea, vomiting, heartburn; stomach pain, upset stomach; black or
dark-colored stools or urine; or temporary staining of the teeth.
Papain Taking large amounts of papain by mouth is POSSIBLY UNSAFE. In excessive
doses, papain can cause severe throat damage. Bleeding problems: There is a
concern that papain might increase the risk of bleeding in people with a
clotting disorder.
Back to the nutrivene again -If it's curcumin keep in mind that when you
supplement with just one nutrient you need to make sure the body is balanced in
what it needs to digest and utilize that nutrient. Again nutriiveda is
formulated by world renowned medical doctors
http://pursuitofresearch.org/advisors.html to synergistically work together.
And just one other thing about the peach flavored NN -that would be cod liver
oil which would be higher in DHA than EPA with no GLA from borage or primrose
Omega 6. Plus any oil made from the liver of the fish naturally would have
vitamin A in it. Fish oils not made from the liver would not contain vitamin A.
We have in our group found the higher EPA to DHA formulas to be better -and you
also want to be aware of the vitamin A level as if you are using reliv it
contains 2500 of vitamin A per just one scoop -and unlike nutriiveda which I
know is 100 percent water soluble -the vitamin A in reliv may be fat soluble
-from what I can tell the nutrients are added not from whole foods, and some are
synthetic.
