Guest guest
I don't have Aetna, I have Cigna. But, nonetheless, I had to appeal to get my DS approved. There is a great case from the Michigan Insurance Commission from 2004, and A LOT of great information on line (I especially liked the definitions from the National Institutes of Health). Our insurance tried the not medically necessary and the school system should be providing (as he just turned 4). Neither is true. IDEA 97 and 04 specifically states that the act doesn't limit a private insurance responsibility to pay for services that would otherwise be covered. And, there is a ton of info that apraxia is indeed a medical condition. It took us a total of 2 months, but the insurance company is finally coming around. Don't give up...chances are you will eventually win! HTH!
