Guest guest
My DAN! pediatrician felt that more EPA would work better as EPA acts on the brain. So perhaps that is why you saw an improvement. I have also been on the ratio that has been suggested on this group and it has really work for my little one but perhaps I should give extra EPA and see how it goes. From: Sent: Thursday, August 12, 2010 1:44 PM Subject: [ ] Is only giving ProEPA ok? or should it be both? Accidently, today I gave my 3 year old 2 capsules of ProEPA. I usually give him 2 x ProEFA and 1 ProEPA, but I got confused this morning. My question is, is it safe to have given him 2 ProEPAs today? Is that too much? He's been on the NN ProEFA/EPA for 3 weeks. I did see a huge improvment after the mix up? coincidence maybe? Any comments would be appreciated. What is the difference between the 2 products? Can anyone suggest what doses they found made the most surges? Thanks!
Guest guest
Hi ! I can report the formula that works best for most but there are exceptions to the rule. My apraxic son Tanner regressed when I got too high with EPA over the GLA which is what happens with a 1/1 ratio of ProEFA to ProEPA, however my ADHD son does best with a 1/1 ratio. I can add however that the initial dosage if you read the following link was a 1/1 ratio and initially we did see a surge -but then a regression. You want to know what works...and what works over days, weeks and months too. Over the past decade most of us have found going to the 2/1 ratio of ProEFA double to ProEPA to be better than either going to 3 ProEFA or a 1/1 ratio of ProEFA to ProEPA and please feel free to try all of the above as I know many of us do. Again surges past the initial on a higher EPA is the exception. I do know of one child who has a carnotine deficiency, diagnosed metabolic disorder, on prescription carnotine who also does better on a higher EPA, and I know of at least one child who does better on a higher DHA than EPA formula -but again neither of those cases are the norm. Fish oils are essential fatty acids which means the are essential for life -to the human body. So the question isn't safety it's which creates the greatest surges. You will be your child's best judge of what formula is best. I can tell you that when Tanner first surged on the ProEPA I got so excited about the EPA that of course my first thought was to try raising the EPA even higher -but of course as I said that didn't work for Tanner or the majority. As parents most of us try things but we stick to what works. Here's a background of why I started adding ProEPA to begin with http://www.cherabfoundation.org/2006/dha-higher-epa-bit-of-gla-and-what-about-ca\ rnosine/ and of course that was written prior to nutriiveda which I HIGHLY recommend exploring for reasons that probably tie in to why our children surge on the essential fatty acids. Nutriiveda through clean whole food sources contains all the nutrients and all the essential amino acids needed daily per serving and helps support the metabolic system -so for the first time in over a decade I have been able to cut my son Tanner's fish oil dosage in half (from 4 ProEFA 2 ProEPA to 2 ProEFA 1 ProEPA) and he continues to surge. I have spoken to other parents that for the first time like me are able to do the same. I am NOT recommending trying to stop essential fatty acid supplementation as they are virtually lacking in our diets today and what we do have are compromised by all the trans and saturated fats- but the theory is that the body is better able to utilize the nutrients. I have to add this to my theory page http://pursuitofresearch.org/science.html I find it interesting that by simply adding essential nutrients (fatty and amino acids) that we are seeing so many surges and there must be a reason why that relates to the metabolic system and digestion. For me I'm thrilled to be able to have found twice now organic food " therapies " that have been life changing to my own son/children and others like them http://pursuitofresearch.org/testimonials.html where it appears the world is going more and more to in my opinion crazy and dangerous adult medications. I just want to stress hydration and dosage are key to nutriiveda...and because so many see such dramatic surges in so many areas -please look for all the areas here in regards to surges http://pursuitofresearch.org/pursuit.html because I am convinced that research will show there is a solid reason why this is " working " and it's not something in my opinion to underestimate. But again nobody is going to know your child better than you do to notice surges and changes on a day to day basis -so yes it's OK to do the double EPA again and please do let us know after a week or so which formula you find works best for your child! =====
