Apraxia and diabetes

My 4 year old son was diagnosed with diabetes this past January. At the

time of his diabetes diagnosis he wasn't making any sounds at all-his

diagnosis is Dev Delay in the area of speech and language with Apraxia also-with

issues with fine and gross motor. In less than a year we now have a child

speaking 4-6 words within a sentence-some of the words he is saying is still

unclear-he over generalizes the " f " sound, but he can get his point across

and as a family we are now able to understand what he is telling us. His

therapist are all amazed, as well as family members, and his preschool teacher.

I went to observe him yesterday at his " typically " preschool and he was

right there with his classmates doing everything with them-on his own-WOW-what

a difference than a year ago. Has anyone ever heard of a child starting

to talk after they went on insulin?? Not sure if it is all related-everyone

keeps asking us- " do you think the diabetes has anything to do with his

speech and development? " Those who I have spoken to within the diabetes

advocacy are very interested in knowing too.

that is very interesting 2 me! i have often wondered about diabetes for some

reason. what other symptoms did ur son have 2 tip u off 2 the diabetes? my son

is gluten & dairy free and when we removed those things his progress was

oobvious. he is much more active. however with removing these things, it

automatically removed some sugar too...something to ask about. also, is this

something that is detected in normal bloodwork, or is there a different test ii

should ask for? thanks!
