My experience with the Tanita, and the early morning vs evening weighing,

is similar.

My Tanita is also consistent in relation to absolute weight, but

not for bodyfat measurement. If one multiplies

percentage of bodyfat times total weight, the figure becomes more

consistent, but still varies.

My balance scale, which weights one pound less than the Tanita,

is completely consistent with itself. I took my Tanita to the Dr.'s

office, and they coincide nicely, so the Tanita is fine for

total weight, for me, and pretty good for bodyfat estimate.

I often use the balance scale in the morning because it 's quicker,

and I like the slightly lower numbers!

We've got a Tanita at home also, and while

I don't often use it any

more for the body fat level, it is the most consistent scale I've

ever had with regard to weight repeatability. By that I mean,

you

can get on and off the scale several times, and get the same number.

This may be because it reads to 0.2 pounds, while the others I've

had

read to no better than 0.5 pounds, so the others have to round

further to put a number on the display.

I found that the body fat level was incredibly picky, and if I recall

the instructions correctly, it should be done in the evening, and

required that your body be properly hydrated. Since I normally

weigh

myself in the morning (you get lower numbers then! - also more

consistent, at least for me) it required that I also weigh myself

at

night, and when the weight numbers in the evening fluctuate so

much

depending on how late you ate dinner and what your fluid intake

was

that evening, I could never convince myself that the body fat numbers

were real (in an absolute sense), although I do see them drop

somewhat when I'm losing weight.
