Guest guest
Barbara, thanks so much for this encouragement. I have 8 year old twins with speech apraxia among other health issues and its just heartbreaking. We are currently homeschooling them and I have to admit its overwhelming. Its so nice to hear that it is possible for them to succeed! God Bless, Jasmine Neil
Guest guest
Thank you so much for sharing! My son is 3 years old and it is so frustrating when no one wants to give you a true diagnosis for Apraxia. They are just telling me that he is showing signs of Apraxia. I am so worried about him, I just want the absolute best for him and I want him to be successful. He is receiving speech therapy 4x a week and I'm starting to notice a difference. I feel like I can understand more words now. We are having some sensory issues as well. I am so stressed out and sometimes I get depressed. I know he is going to be fine but its getting there and all the work that he has to do. Thank you for giving me hope : ) From: BarbaraS <gobraves39560@...> Subject: [ ] My son is doing so good in First grade!!! yay!! Date: Thursday, October 8, 2009, 9:01 PM He was diagnosed with oral and verbal apraxia and sensory issues at age 3 !! I held him back in Kindergarten, and wow is all that I can say!! He is doing so well in First grade!!! Spelling tests are A's and reading is great!! He goes to speech 4 days a week, and gets pulled for sped. tutoring daily, but is doing so well that he may not need it for too much longer!! All I can say is don't give up!!! He has a few kids that make fun of his speech, but I make sure that the teacher takes care of it!!! I feel so good about the progress, that I needed to motivate others!! There were many nights crying over this, wondering why and when he would ever be able to talk.. we still have a bumpy road, but wow.. we are steadily climbing.. keep fighting!!!! Guest guest
It is so wonderful to hear these words. My son will be 3 in a couple months and has been in ST for apraxia and OT for sensory issues for about 7 months. He is doing well, but still not talking much at all. It is so encouraging to hear about apraxic children overcoming a great deal of their struggle to do well in school. It breaks my heart to hear that children make fun of your son's speech, kids can be so cruel. Congratulations on his progress and thanks again for the encouraging words. From: gobraves39560@... Guest guest
I also was able to get my son into a developmental pre-school through out school system at 3 years old. and we live in Mississippi, and have a bad rap for our schools, but our district is great. Long Beach(right on the Mississippi Gulf Coast) where Hurricane Katrina hit.. ugh.. Please check to see if your district has this.. it is great.. Btw.. my son is Trevor.. on the pics page of this forum. My baby.. such a momma's boy!! > > > It is so wonderful to hear these words.
