Friday, October 23, 2009

University of Connecticut Conference Center

Room 108

Course Overview:

This hands-on, practical, therapy-rich presentation will focus on strategies for

clinicians that facilitate verbal communication for children with apraxia of

speech. An overview of diagnostic considerations will be presented. The majority

of the presentation will be intervention-based, with a wide range of treatment

ideas described. A multi-sensory approach to treatment will be detailed.

Videotaped examples of children in treatment will be used to highlight therapy

ideas and suggestions for carryover outside of the treatment setting.

Challenging cases will be discussed as well as those that have been more

successful in treatment. Suggested therapy resources will be discussed.

Attendees will leave with creative, practical, and useful ideas they can begin

using immediately in treatment for their clients with childhood apraxia of

speech.

The majority of the cases presented will be of toddler, preschool, and early

school-age, although videotapes of older children will be used to enhance

discussion regarding this age group.
