Guest guest
I increased the NV for my son to 4 tbs per day (FYI-1 scope is 3 tbs) about a month ago. I also have my son to a new OT and he started intervention summer school again and we took him to a chiropractor (he has drooping of his mouth that a neurologist says is from pressure on a nerve). Poor little guy, he is having a busy summer. For the past two weeks, i have noticed that he has gone sensory crazy! I never thought he had any sensory issues before (my older Asperger's son has alot so I thought i new what to look for). He is now totally craving deep pressure on his face and his body. He will actually rub his face on furniture or will come up to me and rub his cheeks on me. The OT says that this is a good thing because he finally knows he has a mouth and he is trying to get some sensory imput. Also I have noticed some sensitivity to noises. He has also been babbling a great deal and I swear has said some sort of " words " like " get, go and daddy " (he has never talked before). One thing is that the words are not very clear but they are in appropirate context. Once he says it, he may repeat the word once but then won't repeat it again. This will be out of the blue (most of the noises he makes are just babbling noises with no real approximates to words) Two questions-do any of you see sensory issues with NV? will these calm down over time? Second-For those with more experience with Apraxia, when your child starts talking, will the words be clear or will they be more muffled (ie-parents will understand the words but other people may not). Thanks for your help. One more thing-i am going to the Apraxia conference in Pittsburgh next week sponsored by CASANA. the handouts are supposedly not copyrighted and can be shared. if there is anything intresing, i will try to post. one awesome thing is that they are requesting all parent attendees to bring pictures of their Apraxic children (there is a special spots on the nametags) so that all the professionals can see the " faces of Apraxia " . i thought that was a nice gesture.
