The Recent Supreme Court Decision in Forest Grove v. TA: Opportunities and

Implications for Students with Disabilities

a series of free workshops

The recent U.S. Supreme Court Decision, Forest Grove School District v.

T.A., allows reimbursement for private special education services, even when

the student did not previously receive special education services from the

public school. This decision is likely to have major implications within

special education.

Ira M. Fingles, Esq. will describe the decision and its implications for

students whose needs may have been overlooked by the public school,

including those with Specific Learning Disabilities, Attention

Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, Attention Deficit Disorder, Aspergers

syndrome, and others. He will discuss what parents can do if they believe

their child's needs are not being properly addressed by the public school

system, and how to advocate on their child's behalf.

Dr. Gordon will discuss the important role of assessments and

evaluations, Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) and Behavior Intervention

Plans (BIP), which are often the center of disputes and disagreements. He

will describe the best practices associated with these methods. A question

and answer period will follow.

This workshop is designed for parents, public and private school

administrators, child study team members, and teachers. A flyer for for

promoting the event is available. There is no charge, but registration is

requested. Please call Sophia at (732) 873-1212.
