IAN Launches Grandparents Survey

The Interactive Autism Network (IAN) has just launched the Grandparents of

Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders Survey, giving grandparents a

well-deserved voice in autism research. Grandparents residing in the United

States and its territories who have a biological, adoptive, or

step-grandchild on the autism spectrum are invited to complete the anonymous

Senate Finance Committee Passes Health Care Reform Bill Containing Autism

Insurance Reform Amendment

This week, the U.S. Senate Finance Committee passed a health care reform

bill containing an amendment introduced by Senator Menendez (D-NJ)

for autism insurance reform. The amendment will prohibit discrimination in

benefits against people with autism by including behavioral health

treatments as part of the essential benefits package. Read more about the

We Need Answers!

In response to the recent study which indicates that autism affects 1 in

every 91 American children, Autism Speaks launched an online campaign " We

Need Answers " to galvanize the community to act, creating an easy-to-use way

to spread the word. To date, members of the community have sent nearly 2,000

email messages to friends and family about the latest autism prevalence

Third Annual Celebrity Chef Gala Raises $1.15 Million

The Autism Speaks to Wall Street: Third Annual Celebrity Chef Gala was held

at New York's Cipriani Wall Street on Wednesday, October 14, raising $1.15

million. 500 guests enjoyed culinary delights prepared tableside by more

than 80 renowned chefs from around the country.

Autism Speaks Announces New Appointments to Scientific Advisory Committee

Autism Speaks is pleased to announce the appointments of Wallace,

Ph.D. and Aguilar-Gaxiola, M.D., Ph.D. to its Scientific Advisory

Committee (SAC). The SAC is a group of medical and scientific experts

responsible for providing input on research priorities and strategic

direction to the science program of Autism Speaks.

Ride for Autism Speaks Roars into Windy City

On Sunday, October 11, hundreds of participants turned out for a

spectacular day of motorcycle riding through the suburbs of Chicago for the

seventh annual Ride for Autism Speaks. Attendees enjoyed an after-party,

complete with a barbeque, after the 85 mile ride.
