Guest guest
My son had 3 previous hearing tests, all coming back fine. To my surprise, when I brought him in for his testing with the school system to get ready for his transition from Early Steps he didn't pass his hearing test. The last test he had was one year previous. We thought it might be due to a cold/runny nose he had at the time. About 3 weeks passed and I brought him in for a previously scheduled Ear, Nose, and Throat appointment and the audiologist ran another test - a tampanagram (not sure of spelling). Again, he didn't pass. The doctor then cleaned out some wax from his ears and took a look inside. He still had fluid resting there. My son has not run a lot of ear infections or anything that would indicate to me his hearing is off, but he does tend to have a whole lot of runny noses due to allergies. I was wondering if anyone in this group had a child who had a lot of fluid between their ears or any history of hearing difficulties? My speech therapist has commented that he is one of the only children she has that reads her lips to learn words over doing signing. Now I am beginning to wonder if hearing is playing into the apraxia as well. I would have expected him to have a lot of ear infections if he was holding a lot of fluid. Anyone out there with anything similar? I'm a little baffled as he's passed the 3 other tests.
