Reinertsen was born with proximal femoral focal deficiency, a

congenital defect that left her without enough tissue to stimulate growth in

her left leg. She was introduced to another female amputee when she was 11,

who opened up a whole new world for , showing her that with the right

prosthetic equipment she could achieve whatever she wanted -- even run a

marathon! Today, Reinertsen continues to compete in marathons and

triathlons worldwide.
