Guest guest
Hi,  My son is in Lamictal for almost 3 years, it was hard at the beginning, but the bad moods is on and off, less bad days compared to beginning, and we did see a lot of improvements after he is taking it, but again we would like to slowly wean him off also. ________________________________ From: Nutrition Genius <thenutritiongenius@...> Sent: Tue, August 3, 2010 6:22:52 AM Subject: Re: [ ] Lamictal withdrawing symptoms.  yes my children are non verbal and many drugs do have withdrawl effects drs say they dont but you can see that they do ! http://www.thenutritiongenius.com ________________________________ From: Marcelle andre <liamsjmom@...> Sent: Wed, July 28, 2010 9:46:12 PM Subject: [ ] Lamictal withdrawing symptoms.  I am curious to know if anyone has experienced some crazy behaviours as their child is being weaned off Lamictal. My son has been on Lamictal for 8 months with no positive results and is non verbal. grateful to hear any feedback on this. Marcelle

Guest guest
Hi Marcelle, I am thrilled you are weaning your child off this medication, able to wean your child off I guess is a better way of putting it. Don't know enough about this drug to say if it's in the same group as the off label drugs being used in exploratory ways like Namenda a drug developed for adults with alzheimer's with a list of tremendous side effects http://www.drugs.com/sfx/namenda-side-effects.html and the drugs for herpes and labor and did I just read about a drug used for chemical castration?!! I am sickened by how many of our children are being " treated " (in my opinion as real time guinea pigs which they never would have gotten away with 50 years ago) with off label exploratory medications today for children!!! I highly suggest for any drug suggested by a doctor to please seek second opinions, and nothing wrong with finding a traditional western medical doctor who has knowledge in nutrition and natural approaches like http://pursuitofresearch.org/advisors.html because that is the positive direction of today's medicine....did you ever think of even trying nutriiveda? Does your child have seizures, OCD, what psychological disorder or reason for this medication? This is just one of the side effects of the drug you are weaning your child off of. Dargan, MBBS†, Joanne L. Hood, MPharmS‡, Shane M. Tibby, MBChB & #8727; Received 22 July 2008; accepted 25 November 2008. We describe an 11-year-old girl with a seizure disorder who developed fever, rash, rhabdomyolysis, and multiorgan failure 2 weeks after commencing a transition from sodium valproate to lamotrigine therapy. To our knowledge, this patient represents the most severe life-threatening hypersensitivity lamotrigine reaction described in the pediatric literature. We recommend caution when prescribing lamotrigine to children on concomitant sodium valproate, and immediate discontinuation of lamotrigine and the provision of aggressive supportive care in patients with features of lamotrigine hypersensitivity. & #8727; Department of Pediatric Intensive Care, Evelina Children's Hospital, Guy's and Saint ' National Health Service Foundation Trust, London, United Kingdom ‡ Department of Pharmacy, Evelina Children's Hospital, Guy's and Saint ' National Health Service Foundation Trust, London, United Kingdom † Guy's and Saint ' Poisons Unit, Guy's and Saint ' National Health Service Foundation Trust, London, United Kingdom http://www.pedneur.com/article/S0887-8994%2808%2900627-9/abstract =====
