Guest guest
This makes a lot sense it being related to allergies. I do believe it does have some relation to allergies for my son . However I am thinking that in s specific case. The dark circles under his eyes may be soemthing more than allergy related at this point though.  My son has been seeing pediatric eye specialists for the last 2 months off and on. He has seen a whole team of 3 of them at one eye center. Who the referred my son to another eye specialialist again for suspected Glaucoma. We saw him last week. Now my son has had amny eye related tests from A to Z now with eye dilation drops and eye nubing ones. Eye pressure related ones to cornea thickness ones to optic nerve xrays. When the Glaucoma specialist was done with the tests this time. I noticed about an later the dark circle sunder my sons eyes got even darker and bigger sized with a slight swollen look. By the time we reached home they were looking the same again which was about 4 hours later. (It is about 3 hrs from where we live). Now wondering if it is related to s eyes  themselves. For more info see an earlier post I typed not long ago regarding my son and his eyes. Thank you for your reply. ps. I am sorry to hear that your daughter had that unfortunate experience with the eye infection. I am glad to hear that your daughter made it through her ordeal with a good outcome. Your fortunate to have such a wonderful Childrens hospital nearby.  Ona side note. We are so very lucky to have hospitals that cater to just children They are in deed awesome places with wonderful, loving, caring professionals working in them. I know we had a great experience with our childrens hospital 3 and half hours away.  Jeanne and NH From: <> Subject: Re: [ ] Re:Question for the group? Date: Monday, December 7, 2009, 1:39 AM  My Son has Apraxia and Hypotonia and never has had the dark circles under his eyes. His " typical " older sister is another story. Her eyes often look like she has bluish circles under both of them. This all started about 1 or 2 months ago. The allergy answers make sense to me- here is why: We had a very bizarre situation with our daughter 3 weeks ago. Here is the story. Alyssa is 4.5 years old. She was complaining of a right sided headache on an off for 2 days- this was relieved with Tylenol. She then started to complain of her " eye feeling funny " -- the eye looked ok- no redness, nothing in it, etc. She had a slight temp of 100.7 that evening.... I gave her a 1/2 dose of Tylenol- and the temp was normal before she went to bed. When she woke up in the am- her right eye was swollen completely shut. She could not open her eye. I called the Pediatrician and got an early appointment- he diagnosed " Periorbital Cellulitis " - - and put her on Amoxicillin. I was to call back in 4 hours to tell the doc if it was improving. It got worse- so I called back 2 hours later- I was told to take her to our Children's Hospital ER. Alyssa was actually admitted and was inpatient for 3.5 days receiving IV antibiotics and various tests- the scariest for her was the CT Scan-- but it was done in a " kid friendly room " ... she was so distracted by the movie they played for her, and all the cool lights flashing on the ceiling, and paintings on the walls- it was over before she had time to think about being massively scared! Her Periorbital Cellulitis was caused by a sinus infection that got into her eye socket because the bone separating these 2 areas is very thin. The scare with this is that the infection could have gone from the eye socket- to the eye itself-- and then from the eye to the brain- which could cause meningitis. I stayed in the hospital with her during her stay. I learned that she should see an ENT doc in the future for her sinus issues. Ever since this, my daughter has had continued dark circles below both eyes AND Her stuffy nose remains!!!!! ..... I therefore, think that the allergy related thoughts make sense. I have not yet had my daughter tested for allergies... .. The stuffiness seems to be only in the late fall and early winter months historically with her. I have the same stuffiness issues- and have never been tested for allergies. One last comment- the staff at Children's Hospital of Pgh. was wonderful! Alyssa came home with so many crafts- the Rockettes even visited her in her room! I was extremely sleep deprived from being disturbed all night by all of the residents, but all and all- our stay there was very nice- and they went out of their way to make a scary situation for a 4 year old a fun one!
