5 Healthy Lunchbox Foods That Don't Need to Be Chilled

After the lunch boxes in our GHRI testing failed to insulate, we tested

different ways to pack them to keep food safely cold. The only plan that worked:

including an ice pack, refrigerating the drink, and freezing the sandwich

overnight. Too much trouble? Here, some healthy foods that don't need to be so

carefully chilled.

1. Whole-Grain Breads

On labels, look for the word " whole " before wheat or oat, and make sure that

whole grains are listed first.

2. Nut Butters

Spreads made from peanuts, almonds, and cashews contain protein, fiber, " good "

fats, and minerals.

3. Fruit or Vegetable Juice

Stick with one cup a day: 100-percent juice counts as a serving of produce, but

has less fiber and more calories than whole fruits or veggies.

4. Pasteurized Cheese

Laughing Cow Light wedges are great for smearing on whole-grain crackers. Two

are a good source of calcium.

5. Fruit Cups

Whole fresh fruit is great, but prepackaged cups provide the same nutrients.

Choose ones packed in juice to limit added sugars.
