FALL WORKSHOP 11/14 - 12/19 A Theatre/Acting Program Specifically designed for children with Asperger's, HFA, PDD-NOS and NLD. 2009 Award Recipient " The Best in Hudson Valley, " Hudson Valley Magazine A Dramatic Approach Building social skills and self-esteem Where theatre meets the special needs of children on the spectrum A Dramatic Approach is a theatre/acting program specifically designed for children with high-functioning Spectrum disorders and non-verbal learning disorders. Theatre is the one creative art that draws heavily on social skills and interaction with others. In this environment, children who have challenges in social situations get to practice essential skills (reading and interpreting non-verbal communication, deciphering the social nuances of communication, understanding tone of voice, personal space and voice volume, etc.) in a safe, fun arena where they are learning to act rather than focusing on a deficit area. The Program Director, Dorianne Brown, is a professional with experience working with children with these diagnoses. She has a Graduate Certification in Autism from the University at Albany, a Master of Arts in Psychology from Marist College and a Bachelor of Science in Speech (Theatre, Film and Communications) from Northwestern University.
