As we've all are curious about dietary changes which can possibly affect

neurological changes -here's some info of interest!

" We have shown in an animal model that dietary intervention can restore

a proper balance of neurochemicals in the injured part of the brain,

and simultaneously improves cognitive performance "

We tested our daughters neurotransmitters and the levels were very high,

particularly for glutamate. So we recently started her on an amino acid

supplement to help these levels balance out.

Thank you for the link!

This is so very interesting!  So it is all about metabolic processing and

optimizing neurological and metabolic functioning!! So fascinating! Thank you

both for posting

What type of medical specialist do you see to get this testing done? How did

you go about finding your doctor?

There is only 1 DAN dr in St Louis that I know of and an initial consult costs

between $500-$1,000 not even incl any supplements that might be recommended. We

just cannot afford that right now so I need to find a mainstream specialist that

my insurance will cover.

Thanks for any advice!

,

We are fortunate to be seeing a regular pediatrician who understanding the

plight of this generation and the fact that so many kids are now affected

metabolically, neurologically and developmentally ultimately --many have issues

so severe that make apraxia seem like a desirable problem-- has gotten

additional biomedical training and also homeopathic training, so she is both a

homeopath and DAN certified.  But she is first of all a wonderful and

trustworthy human being who is flexible and knowledgeable about neruological and

metabolical disorders in general--the gut/brain connection.

She is of course out of network and we pay 30% of the $300 visits.  We get

supplements run lab ytests --independent labs mostly but many are with Quest too

and it all works out well. We only see her about 4 times a year and by the

second time the insurance _-PPO plan --covers all 100% because by then we are

over our out of pocket out of network limit etc. due to 4 sessions of speech and

1 OT also out of network. So you ge the picture.  There's a point after the

first $6,000 or so excluding supplements when both our therapies and doctor

visits as well as some labs become free.

So we're very lucky I know this, we ahve a very good plan,. oters have to cover

these costs on their own but are well worth it believe me than to go to a doctor

who can only push vaccines and give Tylenol to reduce fever--which should NOT be

done BTW--FEVER has a function in our bodies and comfort is less importnat when

your immune system is trying to do its job abd literally " cook " the invaders but

that's another story.--just an exaple of why i rarely go to mainstream doctors,

certainly not for ilness or chronic issues becuase they cannot address. i still

go to a developmental pediatrician for letters of medical necessity, IEP

recommendations etc, we've been to a neurologist to rule out tumors etc in the

beginning and that was a total waste--they do NOT understand speech and apraxia

in kids--it's not in their text books and most have no clue, and I would go to

the emergency room if needed, but for the rest I think my trust is in doctors

who treat

holistically and as naturally as poss9ible--not with harsh drugs that just mask

the symptoms and do nothing for the real cause of the problem.

Anyway, there are more and more doctors who dare to think outside the box of

mainstream dogma and educate themselves and help these kids wheter just apraxic,

or ASD and apraxic etc. it really doesn't much matter, you work with the

symptoms and the needs of each child and it is ultimately a neurological

disorder continuum  with metabolic roots.  One needs to address both.  My doctor

is DAN certified if it matters and like her there ar emany others , and she does

not chargte outrageous prices or do risky treatments. in fact she tells the

parents to read up and come and talk to her about certain things she mentions

when they ar  comfortable and feel based on what they've read it may help their

child.  I am referring to more potentially invasive risky things. For the most

parts supplements ar ewell tolerated when chosen wisely, it's trial and error

which is why the aprents' role is critical and it's NEVER just up to the doctor.

She never pushes to do

anything the parent is not comfortable, she mentions what has helped others and

then the aprents decide, in fact we are doing a treatment tha tis NOT what she

suggfested but we feel it is better and safer for us and she's OK with it. Her

role si to guide, help understand interpret and help heal--but it is really up

to the parents to do most of the reading and understnading to be able to folloew

what is going on and make informed decisions.

Many aprents however ar enot comfortable with this kind of meedical

approach--they cannot aqccept this responsibility for waht ever reason and wnat

" an expert " who will " cure " their child. Sadly thetre is no syuch thing. Even

prescription dryugs are  on a " trial basis " and the science behind them is often

manipulated and faulty, but becuase of the profits we learn that decades later

after many MNAY victims hyave suffered and died even.--see the Viox disaster and

manipulations of clinical trials.

So all this said i prefer integrative medicla practiutioners who have the

medicla degree but do not push drugs or any treatment on their patoient and work

together with them to understand the complexities of the neurological

metabolical issues.

Al ot of peolpe are helped and healed--this is all I can tell you and it is not

just faith--it is real, it is how our bodies work. Aryuveda can be part of this

too--I've not looked into it yet, but it is along the same line of thought--do

no harm--which is what Western medicine used to subscribe to before it was

hijacked by the pharmaceutical industry.

So look for a DAN trained pediatrician you can work with and just a warning to

read up, join lists and NEVER EVER do something you're not comfortable with just

be cause a doctor, DAN or what not, or anybody says so.

Good luck and e-mail me if you ahve any questions.

Elana:

Sharon here. You responded to me personally on the Hypotonia & APraxia message

strings from about a week ago. I've tried to email you back, but haven't heard

a response. Wondering if my email is ending up in your junk folder before you

see it? If so, please check my note as I'm interested in the info you have...
