I have been told by a few people that I would consider are 'in the know' that my son may not qualify for services because his receptive is so high and since they average the scores he may not be low enough. When I asked if there was a way around this I was basically told no. Do I have any options here? They make it sound like they cannot score these areas separately, is this true? Guest guest
If your child is has apraxia, you need to make sure the evaluators are informed of this. They will need to not only look at his expressive language scores, but also his overall articulation skills. Unfortunately, some 3 year olds have errors which are considered developmentally age appropriate. If your child is receiving ST services now, make sure your child's evaluation includes a " severity rating " . Iowa Severity Rating of moderate is necessary in our county in order for the child to receive services. In school systems, a speech/language delay must be educationally relevant...have some 'reasons' in mind when you meet with the evaluating team. Also, if I recall The Late Talker has some IEP tips for parents. Good Luck. > > > > I am beginning to prepare myself for my sons 3 year old evaluation to see if he qualifies for EC.
