Guest guest
I have never heard of fish oils causing excessive and inappropriate laughing but that falls under I'd say perhaps the " psychotic behavior " that some report from mega vitamin e. Did the laughing start before or after you gave him the 500 IU of vitamin e? How long after? Was it just the one capsule or did you give more than once? From what I have seen the side effects on mega vitamin e can be pretty quick and they do not go away quickly. You don't mention your child's age but if 4 to 8 years old you gave him almost double over upper tolerable levels (!!) and if 2 or 3 years old you gave him almost 3 times over upper tolerable levels(!!!) http://ods.od.nih.gov/factsheets/vitamine.asp#h7 It took my son 7 months to get anywhere back to normal after just 8 or 9 days on pharma omega speak and if you read the reports many children had seizures in around 2 days -so pretty quick. (see some here http://www.facebook.com/topic.php?uid=115029735601 & topic=7363 ) I'm not telling you to scare you -but to try to protect you from what my family had to go through. I'd lower him back on the fish oils to where he was before. From what happened to my son and others it's why I'm now a huge fan of water soluble nutrients when possible. Please keep an eye on him...and please check out nutriiveda with his doctor -share ALL the info including what I have in this email about hypervitaminosis e and the links and what you gave him and get him on nutriiveda. These were the areas my son surged in http://pursuitofresearch.org/pursuit.html It was the one thing that not only brought my son back to where he was prior -but helped him surge ahead -I am forever thankful to that product and the medical doctors behind it as it gave my son his life back and beyond. I have theories as to why here and don't include what I think it did to help my son in regards to what I consider my accidental poisoning him with that (what I consider) mega vitamin e and k product speak http://pursuitofresearch.org/science.html because not all know but I think this helped his body to heal. I can't be any more pleading- I saw what too much vitamin e can do and please don't underestimate it or how quickly. I would throw them away if you can't return them!!! About the constipation- just the opposite in that adding extra oil typically causes loose stools. But again in this group there are in the archives here numerous unusual and not documented side effects when we gave our children pharmaomega speak which had based on NIH guidelines excessively high mega dosages of fat soluble vitamin e. From our apraxia.org page " It is very concerning that this is the list of side effects listed on the website: " elevated heart beat, fever, possible seizures, headaches, emotional outbursts and regressions in speech and behaviors. " http://www.facebook.com/topic.php?uid=115029735601 & topic=7363 I do have suggestions for constipation if that continues -let me know if you want me to share. =====
Guest guest
IMPORTANT -PLEASE READ!!!! I am SO sorry that I missed this the first time and don't know what brought me back to your email again to reread...perhaps what you wrote was so out of reality for most that I just assumed I read you had your child on ProEFA and ProEPA the 2 to 1 ratio as I speak of here: http://www.facebook.com/topic.php?uid=115029735601 & topic=7401 ProEFA and Omega 369 are the exact same formula -the only difference is where it's sold, through health care professionals or through stores (both can be found online and the professional line is cheaper) From the start I always loved the capsules more and your message is a clear reason why newbie parents should stick to capsules- amongst the many other reasons even seasoned parents should use the capsules unless they are using higher dosages for multiple children. I did not catch the first time that for the past month you were giving your child 2 teaspoons of ProEFA (again the 2 brands are the exact same) Each 1/2 teaspoon is the same as around 2 capsules. So you started your child (not sure of the age) on what would be around 8 capsules of ProEFA a day...and increased it up another teaspoon -so another 4 capsules one month later. So 4 weeks after starting fish oil you now have your child on what would be the same as around 12 capsules. Goodness knows from this group over the years I have had parents stressing over when they should increase their child on fish oils from ONE capsule to TWO...and you started at around 8 capsules and went to around 12 in far less time than most took to increase up to 2 capsules. You are VERY fortunate in that the liquid version contains less vitamin e. I still believe the issues you are seeing are probably due to the vitamin e because as high as the dosage of fish oil you are using I've never heard of any side effects (but in my opinion and probably the opinion of the world at large you are way overdoing it. There is such a thing as too much of a good thing! Too much water you'll drown!!) But the 500 IU of vitamin e that you gave him on Sunday was probably the straw because with the liquid which only contains 30 IU of vitamin e per teaspoon vs if you were using capsules which each contain 15 IU so you would have 60 IU per the equivalent of one teaspoon with 4 capsules of ProEFA. I do NOT want parents to be nervous about normal amounts of vitamin e...the only time you have to worry in my opinion is when you go above upper tolerable levels, start going two to three times over upper tolerable levels as what is explained here. (again please check this chart http://ods.od.nih.gov/factsheets/vitamine.asp#h7 ) So what I would do if I were you would be to decrease down to ONE teaspoon at most of the fish oil and if you want to try the right formula squeeze in 2 capsules of ProEPA. You will be using far less fish oil (no extra vitamin e) and you tell me if you don't notice even further surges. Typically I would tell people to start with a 1/2 teaspoon of ProEPA to 1 capsule of ProEPA...and you can do that too. For you due to possible hypervitaminosis e you probably do want to stick with the liquid ProEFA for at least now...but you may want to consider going to the capsules after a few months. For pretty much everyone else this is why I say to use the capsules. Also outside of the product speak with mega amounts of vitamin e...I have never heard of side effects for fish oils even in mega dosages outside of stomach upset, loose stools etc. Again the constipation doesn't make sense to me but for sure if I were you- please again share all of what you just did including now this new information of the 8 capsules a day of fish oils that you just increased to 12 capsules 4 weeks later and then added on Sunday 500 IU of vitamin e. I again would also share nutriiveda with him and please try to get your child on that ASAP because again in my opinion it was healing to whatever damage the mega vitamin e did to my son. Again I think in my son's case it affected his metabolic system...but he now in many ways above normal. I believe this product will help your child's body heal. Theories why http://pursuitofresearch.org/science.html Again try to supplement through whole foods when possible and try to stick to water soluble- nutriiveda is both. =====
Guest guest
Hi, Quick update - the constipation resolved on its own, and it turns out that the laughing was due to extra-large helpings of strawberries and grapes his babysitter gave him(he's allergic to phenols and these are high phenol foods which he should have been eating in small quantities, if at all; the laughing is typical of a phenolic reaction.) All that said, the fish oil doses he's been getting are probably too high and I'll take them down. Thanks for all your input! > > IMPORTANT -PLEASE READ!!!! > > I am SO sorry that I missed this the first time and don't know what brought me back to your email again to reread...perhaps what you wrote was so out of reality for most that I just assumed I read you had your child on ProEFA and ProEPA the 2 to 1 ratio as I speak of here: http://www.facebook.com/topic.php?uid=115029735601 & topic=7401 > > ProEFA and Omega 369 are the exact same formula -the only difference is where it's sold, through health care professionals or through stores (both can be found online and the professional line is cheaper) > > From the start I always loved the capsules more and your message is a clear reason why newbie parents should stick to capsules- amongst the many other reasons even seasoned parents should use the capsules unless they are using higher dosages for multiple children. > > I did not catch the first time that for the past month you were giving your child 2 teaspoons of ProEFA (again the 2 brands are the exact same) Each 1/2 teaspoon is the same as around 2 capsules.
