Guest guest
An ABR (Auditory brainstem response) can test frequencies if needed. I don't know if you could get one without a dx of hearing loss though.
Guest guest
my 8dd had an ABR very soon after birth and than 3mos, 6mos and 1yr old. there was never a question of hearing loss--hers was done because of her hydrocephalus concerns. > > > someone once told me there is a test that can test for clarity of hearing. Does anyone know about this test? > > Also, I have an 8.5 yo apraxic daughter who will sometimes wait up to 30 seconds before answering a question. This happens during one on one conversation with me and her teacher. Prior to now, dd has never had a comprehension or language processing problem. We've given her the opportunity to say, just a minute, I'm thinking, give a hand gesture, etc., but she remains silent. It's been happening for 3-4 months. Does anyone have any experience with this? DD can tell a story, read a book, even sing a song without problem. > > Thanks for any help with this, > Lysa > > > " What you do speaks so loud that I cannot hear what you say. Guest guest
My sin had ABR teats when he was a baby. (he is hearing impaired). Now they do different tests. One test looks at how his eardrum moves (this indicates if there is fluid behind the eardrum or not). They also test different frequencies /pitches. This tells them which sounds he hears better/worse. They also do a test where they say different words to him (nouns) and he can respond by pointing to a picture. They say " airplane " and they can control how loud the sound is. I guess this looks at what he is hearing when he is listening. They have done these tests through our public school system, through s Hopkins, as well through his school (he goes to a deaf school), so maybe that is somewhat standard?? Hope that helps! Guest guest
An ABR can be performed without a diagnosis of hearing loss. My son had one done at the age of 5. If the child is taken for a sound both hearing test during an ENT visit to check for hearing, and even the slightest abnormality occurs, an ABR can be scheduled.
