From Evaluations to Outcomes

Featuring Hillary D. Freeman, Esq. & Margolis, Ed.D.

Students with learning disabilities often require highly specialized

instruction as well as well trained, experi-enced teachers in order to

benefit from special education.

In this 90-minute program designed for parents and educators, reading expert

and special education consul-tant Margolis, Ed.D. and special

education law expert Hillary Freeman, Esq., an attorney with the law firm

Hinkle, Fingles and Prior, will discuss best practice in the evaluation of

students with disabilities, and describe how the evaluation process can

inform service delivery. Participants will learn how to request an

independent evaluation, how to ensure that instructional methodology and

teacher training can be part of the IEP, and how " diagnostic teaching " can

help determined the appropriate, research-based instructional methodology.

Attendees will learn about elements of federal law that require

research-based curriculums, the importance on monitoring the IEP throughout

the school year, and what to do if the student's performance does not meet

expectations.

Transition to College

Featuring Hillary D. Freeman, Esq. & J. Varrassi, MA, LDT-C

Increasingly, students with a range of disabilities are preparing for

college. To be successful, advanced plan-ning is needed, not only for the

academic and organizational demands, but also, for the social demands.

In this 2-hour program, parents and educators will learn about best practice

in the transition to higher educa-tion. Nationally recognized expert

Varrassi, MA, LDT-C, will describe strategies and services needed to build

the bridge from high school to college and career for students with a

history of underachievement due to learning disabilities, Aspergers

Syndrome, and attention issues.

Disability law expert Hillary Freeman, Esq., an attorney with the law firm

Hinkle, Fingles and Prior, will describe the accommodations and supports

that may be available to students with disabilities in college. At-tendees

will learn about graduation issues, admissions testing and admission

process, selecting a college, and ADA and Section 504 accommodations

available to eligible college students.
