Guest guest
I was in a similar situation. I took my son to All Children's Hospital and had him diagnosed w/dyspraxia. Our insurance does pay for evaluations--as well may yours. Secondly, begin calling the local hospitals, and ask for suggestions for therapists who work well w/apraxia. In our case, one hospital directed me to another therapist at the other hospital in our town, which I really appreciated. Thirdly, through the use of all of the documentation found through CHERAB, the school district ended up paying for " private " one on one therapy w/the speech therapist whom I had found! This took 3 IEP meetings. My child currently has private therapy paid for by the school district at the hospital, and will have this one on one therapy for at least another year, plus group therapy at the school. My son was diagnosed with " severe to moderate dyspraxia' (current therapist says " severe " ) and gets 2 hours one on one and 90 minutes of group therapy during the school year. You have to bring in the documentation, read through it all at the meeting, (supply copies to each person) and insist that your child get 5/ 30 minute one on one sessions per week. Then see what they give you....! Be sure to tape every meeting. And put all of your requests in writing. If you don't write it down it didn't happen.
