Guest guest
Hi, I posted about a month ago. My son Ross, 34 months, was diagnosed with apraxia then. He has been in speech therapy with ECI since May. In May he had no words (2 year 3 months old), a month ago he had around 75 words. Today which is 3 weeks after starting the ProEFA supplement, he has over 230 words and continues to repeat things I say so the number is growing!! His articulation is so very much improved. His SLP is amazed! I just wanted to report the great progress and I'm so grateful for reading the Late Talker, reading the apraxia sites, and joining this board. Today we had a hearing test and ENT appt. His first hearing test was in May and he scored low on the highest/lowest tones but they said he had fluid in his ears. Well since then, I have not been to the pediatrician once where he didn't have an infection or fluid in the ears b/w infections. Today luckily he did not have any fluid - I couldn't believe it. But he still scored the same on the hearing test. And scored low in his right ear with the tympanometer. The ENT listened to me describe our background and how we ended up here. He said he wants to try us using nasonex daily for a month and then retest. If no better, he recommends tubes. I asked if he thought the hearing and delayed/disorder of speech were related and he said no - and then went on to talk about how boys talk later... which really angered me but at least I got his opinion. Ross is always wiping his nose and eyes - even though they aren't running. He also gets a bad cough that will last for days with ANY infection he gets. I had bad asthma as a child. His allergist will not say if it is asthma at this point or not. I don't know if all this is apraxia related or not. Do you recommend us going to a neurologist? What would they do and how would it help? I do not think that Ross is autistic, but I would like someone to tell me for sure that we are only dealing with apraxia. Also is there such a thing as an immunity dr.? I wonder if he is low on some vitamin or nutrient. I read McCarthy's book and site on autism and even though I don't believe Ross is autistic - I wonder if vaccines might have caused his immunity to be lower and thus he's always getting sick, has the bad cough, has a neuro disorder... I don't know... maybe I am trying to link a lot of things that don't necessarily need to be linked. Thanks for any advice or suggestions! And I really am just so happy with how far we've come! He is saying Happy Birthday, Galleria, Mickey Mouse - all pretty darn clearly! - I too am a huge Disney fan! Thanks so much for all your efforts - I wouldn't be here with out you!!
