Guest guest
Debra, You don't say whether your child has " speech delay " or whether or not he's diagnosed with anything. My son is now almost 8. At the age of 3, he didn't speak @ all. He was diagnosed with severe verbal & oral apraxia, hypotonia & sensory integration disorder. Since then, he's been in Speech Therapy both @ school 3x a week & privately 2x a week. I've given him EPA & EFA, Vitamin E & Carnaware. He's underwent Dynamic Listening Therapy for almost a year. He's participated in various All inclusive recreational activities such as Horse Riding & Swimming & Gymnastics. At your son's age, Sebastian had to be held in the water very tightly by a person who understood his sensitivities. It took him at least 3 classes for him to go in without her holding him tight. He then would NOT put his face in the water...that was another dramatic session. Forget jumping in the pool! He just started feeling comfortable jumping in the pool and as I said, he is almost 8. Without knowing too much, I can tell you that our children need patience, time & praise. My son was never aggressive so I lucked out there, but that doesn't mean that there were many times where I had to just pick up & leave because something had set him off. Feel free to keep on sharing, Myra p.s. I'm so sorry to hear about your dog. They are members of the family and the grieving can be as severe. We had our Lab for almost 18yrs..we lost him when Sebastian was about 2... Right now I am trying to convince my youngest to at least sit on the edge of the pool for swimming lessons much less actually get in the water. Also I homeschool my 3 older children. My husky had to be euthanized a week ago. I just picked up her cremains yesterday. My other dog is elderly too and her time is very near. http;//www.flickr.com/97reddodge to see a video of my youngest and also my favorite photo of my dogs in the snow. Sincerely, Debra P.S. I used to be here more when my son was 2 1/2. He's still in speech therapy and now he's 6. > > I have posted twice on this group asking for assistance or advice and no one has bothered to respond. > > I am a frustrated parent with a child who has severe issues with communicating and has started agressive behavior to defend himself.
