Vickie-

I mix my daughter's with water, very thick, and for a while was

administering that through a syringe... now she just drinks it.

[ ] Daughter will not take NV

We got the vanilla flavor and were so excited to try it last

night

on our 25 month old daughter. We first tried putting a scoop in

her

milk and she tasted it and then refused the milk. We then tried

half a

scoop in her smoothie and she tasted and refused that. Today we

tried 1

teaspoon in her milk (about 6-7 ounces) and she tasted it and

refused

it. I am feeling pretty hopeless if we cannot get 1 teaspoon

into her.

I have seen recipes for rice krispie treats and cookies but she

is a

picky eater and will not eat either of those things. We are

using the

vanilla flavor as she is not a fan of chocolate. Any

suggestions? I

was so hopeful. :-(

Vicky:

We found a brand of juices that are thick and strong enough that they seem to

mask the flavor of NV pretty well. My son, -3yrs, started NV at 30mos and

he was REALLY picky too.

We used either Bolthouse or Naked brand fruit juice/smoothies. They are bold

(but good) flavors and are thicker than say, apple juice. Any of their red or

blue flavors mesh well with vanilla. You can find them:

Kroger: in produce refridgerated area next to specialty salad dressings and

pre-bagged lettuce/salads.

Wal-Mart: refridgerated section with milk (small small selection though)

Whole Foods/Fresh Market: same as Kroger.

We also started with 1/2 tsp and worked our way up. It took a week to reach one

full scoop. AND, we mixed VERY VERY well. I used the smoothie attachment on

our handheld blender. Just somthing more than a spoon.

Good luck!

Vicky,

What foods does she eat? I work with selective eaters, so perhaps I can give

you some suggestions. Without knowing what foods she likes/dislikes, I would

recommend trying a " no bake " vanilla cookie recipe. You may have to start with

even smaller amounts of NV and then gradually increase it. The key is to barely

have a " just noticeable difference " in her shake or food. I agree to try NV in

pudding, Popsicles, apple/white grape juice, etc. Also, it's impt to enhance the

shake with ice cream etc. until she grows to like it. Usually it only takes a

few weeks but may take a few more with a selective eater. Another key is to be

consistent & keep trying. My dtr is a picky eater so I know how frustrating that

can be. She will be 7 (gasp) next week & has improved a lot in her food

acceptance w/my help. :)

Thanks for the advice Barbara. I am making the pudding as we speak.

She has never had it before so we will see if she likes it. I tried 1

teaspoon in apple juice and mixed it in the magic bullet blender. She

had about a quarter of a cup. So some progress. Her favorite food is

mac and cheese. She loves bread with jam (tried the NV in jam this

morning and she refused), hotdogs, chicken, pancakes (added a bit of NV

to syrup this morning and she accepted it) all kinds of fruit, smoothies

(yesterday we put too much NV in a smoothie and she refused, today will

will try just a bit).

Thanks for all the help. We are desperate here!

Hi Vicky,

My little one has a lot of feeding issues and he wouldn't take it in any food.

I tried and tried. Finally I just started making it thin enough to use a

syringe and I just squirt it in his mouth as if a medicine. And because I

thought it was so important to give NV a chance based on all the reports here, I

felt it was kind of non-negotiable, again, like a needed med. We just sat and

waited until he'd take it down. And with in a few days, he grew to like it and

now I just put a couple scoops in a bowl, add enough water to make it pretty

thin, (if not thin enough, it's sticky like pb and he gagged on it), and spoon

it in. I used to offer a reward of a cookie, which he didn't even like, but

requested every time, then carried to the compost bucket. The different batches

have slightly different flavors and this month I've had to " encourage " him a bit

more to take it, but it's really helping him so we just have to get it in before

we can go on to the next thing in the day, and I try to make sure it's something

fun to be motivating.

So in short, my advice based on what worked for us was to thin it enough to

syringe it in like a medicine.

Good luck, Jess

Everyone does different stuff and I will probably hear how most would never do

this BUT - I make E's into a frappacino - with decalf lol - just blend it in my

blender with ice a tiny bit of decalf coffee, milk (we use almond milk sometimes

as well) and chocolate syrup, stevia (1 to go packet) - topped with some whipped

cream in the a.m. And he thinks he is getting a drink like mommy - he drinks it

down great with a straw - no questions asked. And I have tasted it and it is

pretty awesome. Just a suggestion to those who are looking for ways to get your

child to try it - and I will do what works for E and this does :). Hope everyone

has a great labor day weekend~
