Guest guest
Kids Talk Groups What makes our Center different from the programming offered in most school settings is individual attention and treatment. While this is crucial to the individual success of most patients, it is often helpful to have group sessions to apply all that is learned in a more realistic environment. Kids Talk is a unique concept in group language therapy. The ultimate goal of all speech and language therapy is carryover and use of appropriate language into all speaking situations. For some children, this does not happen automatically and needs to be facilitated externally. Kids Talk was designed to achieve this goal by grouping children with similar needs together. Children are grouped by language skills as well as general age and maturity. Our groups consist of 3 or 4 children working towards the common goal of appropriate social/pragmatic language use with the help of a speech-language pathologist as a facilitator. Goals include: increased eye contact, appropriate social greetings and acknowledgment of others, use of reciprocal language (responding in kind), asking and answering questions, sharing information with others, commenting on the environment, knowing when to say something or not, use of appropriate voice volume/pitch/intonation, the language of turn-taking, verbalizing during pretend play, knowledge of body language and body-space parameters, use of language for discussion and problem solving, learning alternative ways to verbally respond in a situation.
