I hear very LITTLE about the effects of relaxation, meditation, yoga, etc. I've heard several people say that it all comes down to CALORIES. I'm probably considered an extreme CRONie, consuming, on average, about 1000 cals/day (female, small boned, 5'5 " .) I came to CR basically by way of intuition; in the same vein I don't think that it all comes down to CALORIES (that is both on a physiological and philosophical level) and I certainly feel that I have a lot more to master, even though I am PHYSICALLY aligned with CRON. Without wisdom, perspective, serenity, and some grace, it's all for naught.

Absolutely! " But I am interested to know if there have been animal tests for UV exposure, atmospheric pressure (altitude, ie the amount of available air), mental stimulation, sexual abstinence? I would like to know if they have been tested and found to be irrelevant or inconclusive, or if they have just never been tested. " Calorie Restriction IS the only method known to extend lifespan so far. " Also, what are people doing that they consider helpful that probably work, but are untestable - ie yoga, meditation, biofeedback, acupuncture or accupressure. Is there anything along these lines that may also help me sleep? " Most do some form of exercise, ranging from intense workouts and weightlifting to more moderate excercise. If you find a magic potion for sleep please let us insomniacs know about it. Also many CRONIES report they need less sleep. " Finally, are there any of us out there who live in/close to Ventura CA? I guess there have to be some Walford followers down in LA. " there is a quite a contingent on the west coast. Contact Warren (a wonderful guy) at: warren.taylor@... Hi Doug, Can probably still get the book through a book store. Check several as there are many distribution companies serving bookstores. Best cure I have for insomnia is reading the CR e-mail. I read them all every night and have no problem passing out when I lay down. Regarding the platue you are at in your weight loss, just hang in there baby. Your body is shifting gears into survival mode but the weight loss will pick up again. You are doing good and wise to slow things down a bit. Being in smoggy California, you probably have a lot of toxins stored away in your fatty tissue. Meditation et alii may be good for hunger control as long as it helps. I find work a much better medium for hunger management. I don't get hungry until I stop, but then I'm usually on my way by then. Bob
