Guest guest
Hi all, I have been trying to get back into a CR regime for the past month or so. I've been averaging roughly 1200 calories a day...this isn't all that much less than I was eating ad lib I don't think, but I wasn't consciously tracking it before and I am definitely doing the ON part of CRON better now. My question is about the spacing of my calories. Instead of eating a steady 1200 calories a day, I seem to reach this average very sporadically. Sometimes I will eat 2000 calories one day and 500 the next and in one instance 3000 one day and then nothing at all for the next two. I am trying to eat more consistently but find myself overeating for emotional reasons and then having to compensate. Does anyone know if this feast/famine method (don't know whether its really a " method " - just what seems to happen with me!) is as effective as a steady low-calorie diet? The studies I've read seem to imply that ALL that matters is net number of calories. However, intuitively it seems to me that it can't be good for my body to go through so many ups and downs - seems that this unnecessary stress couldn't be good for it. Also, it seems that nutrients are prob not absorbed as efficiently when eaten in one huge meal as when eaten at many times throughout the day. Has anyone seen any studies which address this (i.e. two groups of rats fed the same number of calories but one group eating regularly and the other binging and fasting)? Thanks for any input you can offer! I don't think that raising the metabolism is desirable effect of CRON (that is why moderation in exercise is also recommended.) Also, if you are doing a lot of emotional eating, it's better that you seek other help while embarking upon this program. It has the tendency to amplify obsessional/emotional eating.
