Guest guest
I started my son on carlson's kids 3 6 9 fish oil one pill a day and within 3 days I was noticing a difference. He'll mimic my words. Before I would say, green say green and he'd shake his head or just look away. In 5 days he's learned to say all the colors and is mixing them with words he knows (also a first) Yellow pee, green car, blue car, etc. I just wanted to share Liralen
Guest guest
Thanks Nikki for sharing. My daughter is now 29 months and was diagnosed at 24months with Apraxia. From before she was a year old I knew the there was something wrong. She was my second baby and she was just so quiet. I waited for the babbling to start but it never did. My pediatrician said I should not worry that she will talk. But something told me she wouldn't. I gave her until she was 18 months to develop some speech but nothing came. I started teaching her sign language(signing time) and started at a private speech therapist. My little one was so quiet and didn't make much eye contact or see the point of communication that the speech therapist thought she may be deaf or on the autistic spectrum. After numerous hearing tests, autism screenings, eeg, mri scans, visits to 2 pediatric neurologists, a develomental pediatician and a change of speech therapists it was decided that she wasn't autistic or deaf. Guest guest
About fish oil, here it's explained what has been working for a lot of people (my little girl included). http://www.facebook.com/topic.php?uid=115029735601 & topic=7401 (board moderators also moderate this group) You should also read the fish oils files in this, our group: /links/Essential_Fatty_A\ cid_001183256126/ And remember the Files in this group are in the Links section: /links (TONS of info to read, I found so many answers that!) Hope it helps!
Guest guest
Thanks Nikki for sharing such positive story, it definately gives me hope. My son is 31 months and recently diagnosed with oral/verbal apraxia. I started fish oil about 3 weeks ago. Started with Efalex for 2 weeks and then on NN thereafter. I noted that there was more babbling from him ever since I started on Fish Oil, however no significant improvement from NN as yet. What's the dosage that you're giving your daughter?  Jan From: Nikki Civin <nikkicivin@...> Subject: [ ] Re: fish oil Date: Sunday, November 8, 2009, 2:18 PM  Just thought I would share my story with fish oil. I started my daughter at 20 months on the IQ fish oils as I live in South Africa and I couldn't get hold of them here. She started to respond with in a few days. She went from this quiet little girl who didn't see the point of communication to babbling and making much more eye contact. She learnt her sign language so quickly and loved it and this started her communicating with us. She quickly started signing 2 and 3 word sentences.I wanted her to be on the correct formula for children with Apraxia. Although she hadn't yet been diagnosed with Apraxia I suspected it. I then decided to import Nordic Naturals and started her on one Pro EFA and her response was amazing. We stayed on that for a month before I added another ProEFA and again there was a great improvement. She started immitating in speech therapy and using more and more of her signs. It was as if she realised the importance of communication.  After a few weeks I added a capsule of ProEPA and she did even better trying so many word approximations. They weren't great but she was really trying. Then one of the moms on this group added vitamin e. Another one started on the Speech Nutients. I was a bit nervous to try it so put it off for a while as there had been reports of bad side effects when kids were given too much vitamin e. But afer a bit of research I decided not to go with the Speech Nutrients and rather just add a small dose of vitamin e. Well I can't tell you how much of a difference it has made. She has now got about 30 - 40 words she can say really well she as lots of word approximations. She calls me mommy, which I am just over the moon about. She is also starting to put 2 words together. My spech therapist can't believe the change in her. Don't get me wrong she still has a long way to go. She goes to speech therapy 3 times a week and I do the Kaufman cards with her everyday but she has come so far in the 10 months since we started this whole process. To get het to take the fish oils I mix it in a little yogurt and tell her it helps her to talk. She usually takes it no problem. On tough days I put it in a syringe or mix it in chocolate spread. If all else fails I bribe her with a sweet. Nikki
Guest guest
Hi Jan I am currently giving her 2 capsules ProEFA and 1 capsule Pro EPA. From the reading I have done this is the formula that seems to work for our kids. Nikki
