Guest guest
Sent: Monday, November 02, 2009 3:18 PM Subject: NYS Advocacy Alert On October 15th Governor Paterson released his proposed Deficit Reduction Plan (DRP). Included in his plan are over $65 million in cuts to services for people with developmental disabilities. YAI Network and our colleagues from throughout New York State have responded forcefully to this proposal, which would devastate our service system. Now we need everyone who cares about the future of the service system to join us in fighting these destructive cuts. There are two ways you can help. Email (good), call (better) or write a letter (best) your state legislators to urge them to protect people with developmental disabilities from these disastrous cuts. The legislature has been called into a special session on November 10th to address the Governor’s DRP. It is essential that they hear from us before then. • Visit www.yai.org/advocate for sample letters, taking points and information about who your legislators are and how to contact them. Join us at a rally on Thursday morning, November 5th at 11:00 am in front of Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver’s New York City office. Contact YAI’s Director of Policy and Planning, Rubin at jrubin@... or 212-273-6413 for more information or to get involved. Now, more than ever, we need everyone who cares about protecting services for people with developmental disabilities to make your voices heard.
