Don't miss our November 14, (7-11 pm) Dinner Dance at the West Milford Elks, 1860 Union Valley Rd, WM. It is being held to benefit our HELPS (Helping Early Language and Play Skills) program for toddlers with special needs. $35/per person, $320,table of 10. This includes dinner (roast beef or vegetarian), wine/beer/soda, coffee and dessert, Music, and good friends. Call for tickets. We will have a 50/50 raffle to be drawn at the dance. Three prizes. $2/ticket, $10 for book of 10. Send in your check and we will mail you raffles or stop by the office. If you would like to help sell tickets let us know as soon as possible. See attachment for more info. WORKSHOPS Developing an IEP for Achievement Tuesday, Nov. 10, 7 PM. Learn intervention strategies and how to be equal partners in writing you child's IEP. Basic Rights Wed. Nov. 17, 10 AM This gives you an introduction to your rights and responsibilities as parents of children with special needs. JOIN OUR FIRST TELECONFERENCE Parent Professional Collaboration Tues. Nov 24, 11:30 AM Partnership takes work. This focuses on collaborative teaming, communication and advocacy with between parents and professionals. Must call to register and we will email you teleconference details. Phone access and internet required. YOU ARE NOT ALONE Join one of our monthly support groups. Bloomingdale Support group, Thurs. Nov 5, 7 PM at Bloomingdale Recreation Center, Main Street, Bloomingdale. Open to parents in Bloomingdale and surrounding communities. General Support group, Wed Nov. 18, 7 PM. For parents of children with any disability. Hillcrest Community Center. Dad's Only Support group Thursday, Nov. 19, 7 PM Share a pizza and your ideas with other dads who have children with special needs. Behavioral Support group Tues. Nov 24, 7 PM For parent of children with Autism, ADHD, or behavioral issues'. Hillcrest Community Center. Please let us know if you are attending any of our support groups and workshops so we can contact you if we have to cancel due to bad weather. We have already had snow, so let's be prepared. REMINDER This is membership month. Become a part of our family. Dues are still $35/year. If you cannot afford the full amount, send what you can. An application is on our website. FUNDRAISER Participate in Haircut to Help Fight budget Cuts at Zayna's Cuts for Kids in Pompton Lakes. Purchase a $20 certificate to use anytime. Call Cyndy at the office. NEW PROGRAM Boost Tutoring program is our new initiative for elementary school-age children with learning disabilities. Sessions will be held in West Milford starting in January. This is a voluneer-based program. We already have a Coordinator and are looking for adults who would like to volunteer few hours on a Saturday morning to give kids the boost they need to succeed academically. Abdul, Executive Director The Association for Special Children and Families is pleased to announce the " Boost Tutoring Program " for elementary school aged children with learning disabilities. The program is designed to give children the " boost " they need to succeed academically in school. Boost is scheduled to begin in January 2010. Those interested in their child attending are encouraged to contact ASCF for an application. ASCF is looking for adult volunteers to help with the tutoring.
